Looking for hotel suggestions please - We want nice cafes, quirky shops, both on the doorstep. Need to be close to tube and not miles and miles away from Kings x/Euston.

If you don't mind a chain, then Holiday Inn Camden Lock would be perfectly located for you.

Highgate maybe?

Budget is key!

What do you want to see when you're in London and have you been before? To say "recommend a hotel" is too wide a net to cast.

Hampstead is lovely but out of the centre - it has a more villagey feel than staying in zone 1 - but maybe it won't then feel like staying in "London" and you'll have to travel in to central attractions. A Sunday morning stroll on the Heath is an activity beloved of many genuine north Londoners and cafe culture is strong here.

If you prefer to stay closer to the centre, I don't think staying at King's Cross itself is a bad shout...the new development behind has lots of eating places, people watching opportunities and stuff to see, and you can easily walk south to to the British Museum (and attractions) through the streets and squares of Bloomsbury - there are some neighbourhood cafes and restaurants there and also in neighbouring Fitzrovia.

I like to stay in the South Kensington area, we usually just book a premier inn as that suits our budget. Premier inn Kensington Olympia is near Earl’s Court tube and a short walk to Kensington highstreet. There are several other chain
Hotels in that area.

We need to know budget and what you are planning to do whilst you are here.

There are lots of little old-fashioned non-chain hotels in the area between Euston rd and the Brunswick centre. Around Judd st and Marchmont st. No idea what they're like inside, but it's a nice area with great cafes and not far from the centre of town.

The Holiday Inn in Bloomsbury is pretty good - I have stayed there. It’s convenient for KX, close to the Foundling Museum and Dickens House, short walk to Russell Square tube station, and easy to get to the British Museum, Soho and Oxford St.

I tend to to stay at the premier inn hubs as they're reasonable value,.modern and always nice and clean. There's one at King's Cross. The trade-off is the rooms are really compact.

We're going to see Abba Voyager but definitely don't want to stay near the arena. We have afternoon tickets so have got time to travel there and back into central London. So we'll arrive Friday early afternoon, check into hotel, have Friday night free. Perhaps walk around Covent Garden/Soho/Chinatown and eat. Sat will be mostly taken up with Abba after a late breakfast on Saturday morning. I guess we'll be back to hotel mid evening after Abba, if not before. Sunday will be seeing adult child who lives in Lambeth before catching train at 2pmish from Kings X.

A cocktail somewhere might be nice.

@StTola About £200-250 a night.

Bloomsbury is between Covent Garden and Kings Cross. I find the Hotel Tonight app to be good for bargains (despite the name, you can book in advance). I like the Standard - facing Kings Cross station is great for cocktails but might be a bit over budget.
