Internal British Airways flights to Heathrow

Hello,

I'm trying to bag a cheaper British Airways flight from Newcastle to Heathrow next Friday. Prices 6 months in advance are £28 - £45 so I'm a bit miffed they are currently in the £300 - £450 each process range (for an economy seat!!!) for the day I want. This is a last minute decision as my daughter gets her GCSE results on Thursday and she is desperate to become a pilot and work for BA (in some form). We were going to London anyway but I was trying to plan a surprise for her - with a night at the Hilton Terminal 4 (before we go into Central London).

I've checked the prices over the last week and no drops - does anyone know if they'll drop closer to the date? There'd just be the two of us.

It's a surprise in the planning!

There are Avios flights available on that route next Friday. Do you know anyone with enough Avios to book tickets for you?

BA flights are extortionate these days, especially if you want flights that take off and land at half decent times.

I’m afraid I’ve never really known them to go down, as least not by a significant amount, closer to the time - if anything they go up.

DancingNotDrowning · 18/08/2024 10:35

They won’t drop nearer the time- they’re high because the flights will be near full

The prices are on a sliding scale, once the lowest fare sells out it moves to the next fare. It's not going to reduce, it sounds like it's almost fully booked. Do you have Avios points or Nectar points that can be converted to Avios?

@ImJustaGirlnotaPrincess

Could you get the flight leaving at 20:25, which would be the cheapest of the day?

ImJustaGirlnotaPrincess · 18/08/2024 14:03

The 20:25 flight is too late. We'd need to get the one before or the one before that. I think there are only a few seats left so they've bumped the prices up.

I'm looking to go for my birthday in March and both outward and return flights are £28. I wish I'd thought about this earlier on but hey ho. We are still going (by train) but won't make the Heathrow bit of the trip.

BA flights go up in price not down the closer you get to the date.

The only way to get them cheap is to book way in advance.

You will likely need your go by train instead but even they will be £££ at this point.

ImJustaGirlnotaPrincess · 18/08/2024 17:50

I already have train tickets that I booked weeks ago but I was planning to fly down and come back using the original train tickets. I'll stick with the train both ways as no way paying over £500 for two 40 minute flights to London.

@TheSquareMile
Thanks for these. She knows about this and has already had work experience with British Airways at Heathrow. I think she will probably end up doing something next summer with them, half way through her A-levels. If she still wants to pursue becoming a pilot she will send an application in.

That sounds very promising.

Which A Levels would she like to do?

@TheSquareMile

Maths, Physics and Chemistry so far! Possibly art too.

It's a Bank Holiday weekend so that will be why they're so high, and you're looking to book so close to departure.
