Things to do around London Eye

Taking my two 9 year olds to London for a couple of days next week, we have Merlin passes so going to do the London Eye. Any recommendations for things to do near that? My geographical knowledge of London is really not great... Also any nice food recommendations too, my girls will eat most things.

Thank you!

Lots of restaurants down by the thames and all next to each other, might be good just to have a wander and see what they fancy. There’s the aquarium and Shrek adventure right near by? If they’d still be entertained by that. Or the Tower of London. Otherwise could see if you could get a boat ride on the Thames

When DD was younger we did the London Eye, followed by the London Eye river cruise (can get a really good deal if you book them together on the website) and then a walk along Southbank to Borough Market for food. Perfect day out!

Brewdog Waterloo has a slide if you want a child friendly beer and food stop

There is the aquarium close by if you want to spend more money!

Or cross over the river, go up to Trafalgar Square, then either walk down to Buckingham Palace, or walk down to the Houses of Parliament via Whitehall , see Downing Street and the Horseguards on parade. Or walk up to Leicester Square and visit China Town, or cross over at Leicester Square tube and go to Covent Garden.

(ps as you walk up Villiers street to the strand to get to Trafalgar square there is a very good gelato shop on the right hand side)

Or walk over to Embankment Pier and catch a river boat down to Greenwich , lots of things to see on the way HMS Belfast, Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf etc etc and Greenwich has lots to see and do, Observatory, Maritime Museum etc.

While you are near the London Eye walk down to the Festival Hall, there are loads of kid friendly chain eateries there, like Giraffe, Prezzo, other pasta and pizza places , or if you are feeling adventurous there is a foodie market behind the festival hall that has great pop up stalls. Festival Hall handy for toilets too, or if it is a rainy day and you have your own food there are places in there to sit and eat it ( discreetly!)

Have a great day.

There's a great free playground just behind the London Eye, that's good for older children as well. My DC had a great time there the other week after we went on the Eye.

For food a stroll or a boat ride down to borough market could be good, although will be busy. There a loads of lovely restaurants along the river too.

You have the aquarium right near the eye, and also the dungeon but your children may be a little young for that.

If they like skateboarding it's always good to watch the skaters at south bank.

Depending on what your children like you could head to Leicester Square, the Lego store and M&M world seem to be favourites of our visiting nieces and nephews, although I warn you it's hell on earth, particularly M&M world.

The eye isn't far from lots of the main tourist sights, so you could easily fit in the Houses of Parliament , Buckingham palace, Horse Guards, Downing Street, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square etc depending on what takes your fancy.

If you want a break from walking, find a normal TFL bus route going passed what you want to see, don't shell out for a bus tour. The bus fare will be £1.75 and kids free, and with the hopper fare you can catch multiple buses in the same hour without being charged again.
