Whitworth Gallery (we combine with falafel for lunch in rusholme & a play on the hamster wheel in the park!)
Manchester City Art Gallery (we combine with trip into Chinatown)
People’s History Museum
Manchester Museum
MOSI

we once went to the canal boat lift somewhere in Cheshire, that was good.

FlipperSkipper · 23/07/2024 20:58

Bewilderwood
Pennington flash
train to Liverpool to visit the free museums

NigelHarmansNewWife · 23/07/2024 20:58

Maybe spend some time at home and have some projects on the go?

Sususubio · 24/07/2024 06:11

Thanks for those ideas! Don’t think I’ve taken the kids round Chinatown yet or into Liverpool.

Definitely planning some days at home as well and don’t expect to complete the list but want to have lots of options up my sleeve

Anderton is the boat lift in Cheshire mentioned above.
Bruntwood park in Cheadle has a good play area and is right under the airport flight path for plane spotting.
Mayfield Park (it's quite new and a short walk from Picaddily station)
Old Trafford or Etihad stadium tour
Stockport pool has flumes
East Lancs steam railway at Bury
Museum of Transport at Cheetham Hill
Salford Museum & Art Gallery / Peel Park
The Lowry sometimes has things on for kids in the holidays
Red House Farm (Dunham) and Dunham Massey ice cream shop
Bramhall Hall / park
Ellesmere port waterways museum
Cheshire Shire Horse centre
The Ice Cream Farm in Cheshire
Delamere Forest
Chester - walk the Roman walls, boat trip on the river
Chester zoo (but £££££!)
Dino Falls adventure golf (by the Trafford Centre)
Lego Discovery Centre
Abbotsfield Park (aka Chassen park) in Urmston has a mini railway like the one at Walton Park
Clip & Climb (there's a few venues do it around Manchester)

Nothing can be that desperate that you have to go to the Trafford Centre!! 😱

Mushroo · 24/07/2024 13:56

Loads of great suggestions here, purely place marking really. How about the Chelford Car Boot sale give them £5 each to treat themselves to some new toys. Then you could go for a nice walk up Alderley Edge afterwards. Or Capesthorne Hall is also lovely and nearby.
