Spending a few days in Cardiff next week with two teenage daughters. Staying in the centre travelling by train. Any suggestions things to do with them? Shopping is definitely on the agenda.

The castle is worth a visit-there is a nice tea room there as well! Cardiff Bay isn’t far on the train-there are some nice places to eat, the little Norwegian church and boat rides round the bay.

The dr who exhibition if they are into that. I love walking round the bay and looking at everything.

There was an amazing Indian restaurant at the bay that from the outside doesn't look like much but the food was the best food we have ever had for Indian. Duchess of Delhi. Would recommend going here if you all like curry.

Take the boat from Cardiff castle to the bay. Have a wander and an ice cream. The doctor who exhibition is no longer there. Go into the arcades in the centre as well as these are easy to miss.

The Dr Who exhibition closed years ago unfortunately.

Cardiff Bay is still good to visit though with nice walks across the barrage, plenty of places to eat and drink. You can go inside the Senedd building. See what’s on at the Millenium Centre. You can get a boat down there from the river beside the castle

In town the Castle is worth a visit, Bute park for a walk, tours around the Principality Stadfium or roof walks. Would they enjoy an Escape room? if they’re 18 or older Flight Club is great fun

The shopping could take some time though! Make sure you find the arcades, and the indoor market is good with some fab street food up on the first floor.

Unless you come from somewhere quite small, Cardiff is not a great shopping destination.

I quite like Cardiff to live in, but I don’t think I would really recommend it for a short break destination. There are much better cities for that.

But being as you are coming, I quite like Pontcanna. You can walk there from over the river bridge in Bute Park. Some quite nice eateries and a few nice shops. Depending on when you come, there might be some nice stalls at Kings stable Yard.

If the weather is nice you could always catch the train to Barry Island and have a day on the beach, it's only a short journey. Bonus if they are Gavin & Stacey fans.

Catch the train Penarth ( or No 92 bus to the pier, if it’s still running) and walk to the beach for an ice cream on the Pier, for a sandy beach and arcades head to Barry Island.

some ideas here,

We last went in May to see Springsteen at the Principality stadium and I have to say that it was quite a shock to see how run down the city centre has become. Shopping wise, it was hugely disappointing so I'd try and fill time doing other things.

You can do tours of the BBC studios in the city centre too
