Flying Solo with 9mo

I’ve got an upcoming trip to the US from the UK, and on the way, I’ll have hubby with me, but he needs to return earlier than us, so on the way back, I’m on my own. So we are looking at a 6-7 hour flight overnight.

I’ve been prepping for sleeping arrangements and whatnot (if he sleeps), however my main worry is if he is sleeping, what to do when the inevitable happens and I need the bathroom? If he’s awake I’d just bring him with me, but if I do get him to sleep I DO NOT want to wake him up, but is it safe to just leave him there??

I’m wondering what others have done in similar circumstances. Is it ok to ask a flight attendant to keep an eye out? Or is that way out of line? I know I won’t loose him on an airplane, there isn’t anywhere for him to go, but just walking away in public feels wrong.

This is all assuming he either magically fits in the bassinet (probably not, I’m not banking on that) or I makeshift some kind of floor bed for him, so he’s not asleep on me.

How have others handled this?? Thanks!

I’ve done it solo a few times. I would really recommend to book an extra seat and take the car seat. And I would and have leave them strapped in and asleep and quickly pop to the loo. If it’s BA though they have a different bassinet for older babies that looks like an oversized baby bjorn bouncer chair which is good and usually fits up to 18 months. Can probably google for pictures. Can’t use it when the seatbelt signs are on though. Don’t put the baby on the floor! Terrible idea in case of unexpected turbulence or if you’re sat anywhere but the window, in case someone walks through whilst you’re asleep.
