North Wales in August

Childfree and thinking of booking a last minute dog break to North Wales next month. I know it's the English/Welsh school holidays (schools have returned in Scotland)

Will it be mega busy with families and kids? Would we be better waiting until September/October?

We had a family holiday in Snowdonia in August a couple of years ago. It was lovely, didn't feel too busy at all, certainly not compared to the Lake District which is where we often go.

Busy at the coastal resorts. I feel if you avoid the A55 at peak times you will be fine.
Its a great destination, some ideas here

We are a family with two Dandie Dinmont Terriers from the North West of England. We try to keep busy …

It depends a bit on where you go. The further into the depths of Wales the quieter it is. Llandudno etc will be crazy busy with families. Once you're past Caernarfon it gets quieter.

Are you looking coastal or inland? We did a holiday to Nefyn this June half term and I was surprised how busy some of the beaches are. Still, compared to the likes of Cornwall it's a lot quieter I suppose!

We had a fabulous August holiday one year at Porth Neigwl, right at the bottom of the Llyn Peninsula. It's a huge beach and there's not much parking so was never particularly busy. Great beach for dogs too!

Thanks all. The accomodation would actually be in land near Corwen? But were hoping to do a few day trips to the coast. Never been to Wales so really keen for it to go well!

Ah, then I think you'll be ok. There's plenty of room inland. 😁

North Wales is lovely, have a lovely time.

(Take waterproofs 🤣)

From Corwen, llangollen, Bala town, Bala Lake, Barmouth are well worth a visit.
Barmouth can get very busy and carparks full, but if you drive a short distance up the road to Llandanwg Beach, large beach with toilets, small dog friendly Cafe and an old church and you can usually park.

A bit further North from Barmouth is Harlech which has a very nice beach too

Drive from Crown to Conwy its about an hour, Conwy is a Medieval fortified town, the wall walk is nice. But take the route via Betws-y- Coed very nice little place along side a river, few dog friendly eating places too. Now the hidden gem well actiually two
The Conwy falls cafe, excellent food, but you can walk out the cafe down a steep gorge to see the water falls. https://www.conwyfalls.com
The a short drive down the road is Fairy Glen basically the other end of the gorge, its a nice walk, some info here
https://thewholeworldornothing.com/betws-y-coed-fairy-glen/

The secret with Wales and many other places is its not just about the destination but what you pass on the way.
Some more detailed info here, you would pick up the route on the A5

Home Page

The Conwy Falls is set in 10 acres of ancient SSSI woodland with spectacular loop walks providing views over the waterfalls and the Fairy Glen. Large spacious licenced café open 7 days a week.

Have you booked your accomodation in Corwen, as to me it seems an odd place to book if you want to be closer to the coast?
My sister lives just outside Corwen and the closest supermarket would be Ruthin or Llangollen. You could do Bala in 20 mins but basically all you have there is the Co-op and Spar.
Bala would be more central for the coast, Barmouth on a good day just over half an hour away, drive on and come to Harlech. Portmadog is within easy reach as well.
August will be busy anywhere in North Wales in August.

Not in North Wales but you could visit Chester from Corwen easily. King Arthur's Labyrinth and the CAT centre have always been enjoyed by us when DS was small.

Fantastic suggestions from everyone, thank you.

This is the accomodation, but haven't quite booked it yet. Now on the fence about finding something nearer the coast.
