Down in London staying as near Wembley as we could for a concert.

Please recommend things to see/do or eat in the Harlesden area as really struggling to find much when googling.

Thanks!

It’s not really a tourist destination AFAIK. It’s near Wembley and that is about it. You could do any London things from there but nothing local.

Thanks. Getting that vibe. It's actually more in Willesden but was hoping there might have been something worthwhile more locally.

I’d try and eat on your way out/back. I don’t think you want to be wandering around Harlesden or Willesden. I have lived in Willesden and it did not feel safe. Might have just been my street of course.

Depends what you mean by ‘to do’ - if you mean tourist type things then very little but there’s a beautiful carved marble temple in Harlesden that’s worth a look.

There’s a great range of Indian restaurants in Wembley.

You can get to Notting Hill easily on the bus from Willesden which gives way more options or go a few stops on the Jubilee line to get to central London.

Way back in the day there was a fine chap who used to cook chicken on half an oil drum opposite the petrol station at about 3am. Is he still going?

Other than that unless it's changed massively I can't think of much to do there.

That's because there isn't anything.

Shayona restaurant opposite the Shree Swaminarayan temple in Neasden is very good. The temple is beautiful and interesting to visit.

There's a very nice little Italian restaurant called Sanzio very near Willesden Green tube station.

My family live there. It's pretty rough and ready. Used to be very very hardcore, lol.
Not so much now, it's quite mixed. But there's some interesting Brazilian bars and cafes, a couple of nice pubs, and some African restaurants/ grocery stores.
Roundwood park is nice.
It can be a bit sketchy late at night though. There's quite a lot of poverty in parts of it.
The canal is nice for a walk down to little Venice.
Blue mountain peak grocery store have lovely fruit and veg.
There's some good Jamaican jerk places too.
A lot of the locals are quite friendly.
People smoke a lot of weed there...
It's definitely a vibe. And very convenient for Wembley.

It’s not the nicest of areas…

Nearby Willesden Green, Kensal Rise and Queens Park have better options but it’s probably more convenient/quicker to eat in Wembley or travel further afield to somewhere more central. It’s often easier/quicker to travel further away on the tube than it is to get to the next neighbourhood in London.

DeadlyKnightshade · 02/07/2024 17:54

Harlesden is not a nice area. I would avoid it as I thinks it's the roughest part of north west London.

AnnaMagnani · 02/07/2024 17:57

There's the Temple in Neasden. That's it.

Willesden must be better than Harlesden as there's a Gail's Bakery there.

There are a lot of Brazilian restaurants there so that's probably where I'd pick to eat.

Thanks all. Had a long day of travelling from Scotland and had to come via the centre to check into our (very sketchy sadly) accomodation, so couldn't really be bothered going back into the centre. Ended up in a really lovely Vietnamese called G Asian canteen and I would thoroughly recommend it. Coming from a fairly "rough" part of Scotland and still feel way out of my comfort zone 😂

Oh… you are already there. Glad you found somewhere nice. The Grand Junction Arms on the canal is supposed to have a nice beer garden if you fancy a drink now the sun is out.
