Hi we are travelling to Belfast and will be in a car.
Does anyone know is parking available or best place to park around Ulster Museum?

Any other suggestions for things to do with a 10 year old in Belfast?

The museum doesn't have a carpark, but you can park on the adjacent streets.

How long are you in Belfast for?

We usually park here when going as only a 5 mins walk. Link should take you to Google maps x

Literally only there for the day. We are in Fermanagh for the week and driving to Belfast for the day. W5 is brilliant we went there before so looking for something different.

A very short walk from the museum
Is the university- which looks like Hogwarts! Plus the museum is in the botanical gardens and it has a glass house like Kew but it's older. Nice to walk through

The Ulster Museum is pretty good, particularly as it's free, but I'm not sure there's much to sustain a 10 year old, once you've done the stuffed animals bit. Lots of paintings and a Troubles gallery. I remember it being great when DD was tiny, and then not so much. V expensive cafe too, my tip is to cross the road and go to Maggie May's.

I presume when you're in Fermanagh you'll do Marble Arch Caves? That's a really good trip with a kid of that age.

Have you considered the Folk & Transport Museum? (Or, the Fucking Transport Museum as it's known in our house Grin.) That's really good, and you can do just one side or the other depending on the weather.

I got a Hop-on Hop-off tourist bus, which isn't cheap, but does give you a good overview, and stops at places like the Ulster Museum. There's a normal public bus, too, but you'd have to check online for the details.

I really enjoyed the Folk Museum and would have lived it age 10 (as I loved St Fagan's by Cardiff.) There is parking and public transport there, but it's a bit out of the centre.

There's also the Titanic Quarter. Or the Gaol, which I'd have found interesting as a child, but i may have been a special case...

Basically you need a few days...

@Octocat Yes we will definitely do Marble arch caves. Hadn't heard of the folk and transport museum but maybe that might be more interesting for her.
@EBearhug Yes id love more time in Belfast! The folk museum looks good It's not too far away on Google maps from city centre so that might be better.

Titanic museum is fascinating! It's really well done. You have to prebook.

Just to make you aware OP, the Ulster museum closes on Mondays.

The Folk park is very good too.

Just a heads up, the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum is in Cultra. Two separate areas on opposite sides of a main road. The Ulster American Folk Park is completely different and is in Omagh, but is also managed by NMNI!

DD enjoyed both the folk bit and the transport bit at that age. The folk bit is lovely on a sunny day. You can buy ye olde sweeties at an olden days shoppe by the entrance to fuel your walk through the past Grin.
