I've always wanted to visit one of these and my birthday is looming...teen DCs don't get a day on my birthday where we go!!

Living in the South East, got a feeling many of them are in the North?

Can anyone recommend one?

Went to Barbara Hepworth's house in St Ives years ago although I'm really after bigger sculptures.

Yorkshire sculpture park is amazing, especially if you like Hepworth.

Thanks SundayTulips

Really looking for somewhere as close to SE as possible.

We went to the Yorkshire one a month ago. Everyone really enjoyed it including the kids. We could have easily spent much longer than the 4 hours we did but were constrained by wider family activities.

There's Shropshire Sculpture Park. Look it up, though, as it might not be what you're looking for. The sculptures are made from recycled material. It's not massive but they have a nice restaurant outdoor cafe and shop.

The Sculpture Park | Sculpture by the Lakes

This is in Dorset and I really want to go! I've been to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the nearby Hepworth gallery is wonderful [preferred it to the park]

Also this is in Hertfordshire if you're a Moore fan

YYY to Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

It may be north, but it's only 2 hours on the train from King's Cross (to Wakefield Westgate). plus a 15 min taxi journey. Could be a day out, or part of a weekend to Leeds?

I’m hoping to go to Crosby beach for the Gormley statues

Forgottenmyphone · 28/05/2024 11:04

This is an annual summer event in Norfolk https://waveneyvalleysculpturetrail.wordpress.com/

Churt in Surrey

How old are your DC? We enjoyed sculptures by the lake but over 14s only because of the water. It's near Dorchester so perhaps too far west anyway.

The Cotswold sculpture park is also good but not in the area you want. Just mentioning it for anyone else who is interested

Teens are 16 and 17.

Sculpture by the lakes is worth a visit. It is a adult only sculpture park but they will let teens in (I have taken mine), the lack of noisy children adds to the experience because it’s meant to be a tranquil relaxing place. I need to go back again as they keep adding new sculptures.

We were really disappointed with the Yorkshire Sculpture park , a very long walk up and down a hill with very few sculptures imo .

Theres bloomin loads, no idea how you could walk up or down the hill and say there were only a few.
It is a sculpture PARK though so I suppose if you were expecting the density of a Gallery it could be disappointing

Scissorsisters · 16/06/2024 21:39

Forest of Dean is good, but maybe a bit far for a daytrip.

Floralnomad · 16/06/2024 21:39

Perhaps we didn’t follow the correct route then because they were very well spread out and also I suppose not to my taste on the whole . Should have researched it better but we were in the area and it was on our ‘ to do ‘ list . I’m also not good on hills due to my COPD , which didn’t help . The highland cows were nice .

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 16/06/2024 21:41

The Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden in Surrey, is on my To-Do list for this summer. I haven’t been so can’t tell you what to expect but the reviews are good and perhaps it isn’t too far from you?

Oh I think I know which bit you mean then and you are right there isn't much up there. The cows are lovely though.
Loads of sculptures on the hills heading up to the cafe/shop and main car park

The sculpture park in Farnham in Surrey is really good and not too expensive.

incessantpunditry · 16/06/2024 21:47

I just came on to suggest the Henry Moore Foundation, but I see someone has beaten me to it.
