I have a week in August I need to be away for. Will be just me and maybe the dog.
I want somewhere quiet with empty sweeping sand on the doorstep. Poldark-ish.
I dont know Cornwall at all well. North or south coast?
I know it’s August and school holidays and other peoples children but…….
small cottage/hut would do. would camp but uk weather.
any suggestions?

Rock would be great, you can walk for miles and it tends to be much quieter than Padstow. Lots of lovely little bungalows you can let - try Latitude 50 we had a lovely stay booking through them.

Be aware that many beaches in Cornwall ban dogs during the day in summer.

Oh lovely suggestions thanks.
fairly fit. Dont mind a good walk but have visions of throwing the door open and just walking out onto a beach. Obvs know this is a bit of a fantasy but I can dream)

Marsden grotto does that and it's dog friendly, private beach. It's not in Cornwall though.

If you want solitude and empty beaches in August it's hard to recommend Cornwall. Northumberland or Pembrokeshire would be better bets. And as a wild card, have you ever tried Brittany? There's a similar coastline but its much, much emptier, and therefore more likely to find accommodation really close to the shore. Somewhere like the Côte d'Emeraude in the North has miles of beaches that are virtually empty, even in August. And it's easy to get to by overnight ferry so much easier than the dreaded A303...

10 seconds to the beach.

I'd put the dates in AirB&B, tick beachfront and pets accepted and see what comes up that takes your fancy.

We stayed here once:

On the coast path where you could walk along to tiny empty beaches when the tide was out, but handy for nice food and drink places when not walking!

Head down to the west of Cornwall for Poldarkesque scenery. Past Penzance and St Ives

Northumberland always seems so much further. I’m south. But it’d be a 5 hour drive to the end of Cornwall so maybe……:

Seriously, have a look at travel times. Northumberland has the advantage that the A1(M) doesn't grind to a gridlocked halt on holiday weekends. Have a look at properties in Seahouses.

Bovrilla · 25/05/2024 22:04

If you want the Cornwall look and coastline but quieter then Pembrokeshire will make your heart happy. Have a look around Cardigan.
