London - Open Top Bus tickets worth it?

2 kids and 2 adults for £100. We are staying near Excel so need to travel there and back on the Saturday and Sunday so need to use public transport then.

Is it a waste of money travelling once in London? DDs just want to see the usual sites. I'm so confused. Thanks.

get on the thames clipper (think its called uber boat now)! you see all the main landmarks and its awesome. fraction of the price too.

MistyMountainTop · 22/05/2024 11:14

If your children are 10 or under they travel free on public buses, tube and DLR (DLR Custom House stop serves Excel)

MrsDTucker · 23/05/2024 08:33

Hi they will be 12 and 14

Do you use Oyster on the underground and bus?

Sorry just read you do.

Is the Elizabeth line not classed as underground

It's not technically an underground line, but for payment it's just the same.

It's run by TfL so you can use contactless or Oyster.

Those open top buses are a swizz, normal bus or clipper as suggested.

Just use contactless payment. You can get oysters at the station for the kids and have a vistor discount applied, but depending on how much transport you plan to use and if you will reuse the card you may be as well just tapping them in with another card/contactless as the oysters are £7 each now

Where you're staying is near the cable car across the Thames to Greenwich. Not really the quickest way to get about but it's fun!

This! I love the Clipper and you can use an Oystercard to board. Such a nice way to travel around.

Getting the cable car over to the o2 and clipper boat from there into town is a good way to see the sights.
The open top bus seems pointless to me but depends what you want to see and do.

MrsDTucker · 23/05/2024 16:11

I always think I have a plan then people offer other suggests. 😂😂 I guess that's what happens when you visit the capital 😬😬.

Thanks all.

In my opinion not worth it, public transport is so good and easy to use in London. Get a tourist bus map and pick one of the bus routes that pass by touristy bits, you can see a lot sitting on the top deck.

Rainydayze · 23/05/2024 21:02

Yes to uberboat! The open top buses are so slow! Sitting in traffic feels a waste of time, and many tourist spots are walkable with intrrrdting things on the way.

👌👌
