Butlins Bognor Regis

I've just on a total whim booked Butlins for the last week of August. (Well, 3 nights) Me and DCs 14 and 12. I have bought the Premier food package and the spa package.

I'd love tips from people who have been- we have never been on a holiday like this and I am totally excited. DS1 has autism and needs alot of downtime and I have no idea what to expect or what we might access in terms of activities.

Thanks!

I love Bognor it's perfect for little ones although not been with teens. I'm sure they'll enjoy the fairground rides and swimming pool and it's a safe place for them to roam solo.

Which accomodation are you staying in
Last time we stayed in the hotel and ate at the buffet restaurant, plenty of variety of food. The chalet type buildings are fine, but can be noisy as people walk past in the evening.

If your autistic DC is sensitive to noise then I'd pack some noise cancelling headphones as inside the main building and the evening area can be loud and a bit overwhelming.

How are you travelling? It's a short journey from the train station to the park via taxi, you could walk it but not ideal if you have bags.

Aah brilliant!

Thanks so much. Definitely a yes on the noise cancelling headphones, good shout. I sometimes forget them which is not good. We are in the hotel. I am hoping DS1 will like a buffet- it might make him slightly more adventurous food wise.

I was going to drive but will look at the train- thanks! (It had not occurred to me about the train). I am not a confident driver in new places so will check that out.

I am really excited and can't wait to tell them when I pick them up!

I've taken my dc there at similar ages op. We enjoyed it. There is a funfair and the pool is great with lots of slides. They did lots of activities...zip line, climbing, archery etc. We watched lots of shows. The beach is just outside and pretty quiet, my ds liked walking on it in the evening with me.

RiseYpres · 24/04/2024 14:24

Oh wow! I am so looking forward to it! I love going to the beach.

Checked out the train travel option and it is by far the easiest and seems to take a mere 19 minutes longer than the estimated driving time so that is fantastic.

I am really excited about pools with lots of slides as well. DS1 has only recently got to grips with swimming and this will be the first time he can go on slides. He's going to love it.

I went when the DC were small

The only tolerable accommodation for me was the Skyline Hotel but I know they have lovely apartments because I've been in the Gold ones

The pool was a lot of fun

The evening entertainment was fun as was the wrestling which was loads more fun than expected

They have a fun fair and lots of weird activities

I only ate at the Shoreline Hotel because I liked the dining area set up with its booths

SomethingIn · 24/04/2024 14:52

I have no idea re the food packages or what that entails because only ever ate at the hotel.

They do have a Spar shop on site if you need to buy food and drink

Pool is really amazing but does get busy. I reckon early morning and meal times are probably quieter but I'm just trying to remember

@RiseYpres I actually prefer travelling to holiday via train as it is more of a novelty ofcourse the downside is that you lose out on the flexibility of galavanting around the local area but that doesn't matter much on a Butlins holiday.

idontlikealdi · 24/04/2024 15:51

My kids love butlins Bognor. We're
Contemplating going for new year this year.

The only accommodation I'll stay in is the hotel though.

Go and have fun and embrace it for what it is, a kids holiday.

idontlikealdi · 24/04/2024 15:52

The pool has night swimming which my kids loved. The rapids go open air and they loved it in the dark. Not sure if they extend it in the summer so it gets dark though.

Told the Dcs today when driving them home from school.

DS1 is beside himself with excitement. He has been watching youtube videos of people going to Butlins all evening and said he wants to save his pocket money for new shoes to wear there to 'celebrate'. (random, but very DS).

This might be the best ever off-the-cuff decision I have ever made.
