For adults ? For children ? for families ?

WonderingWanda · 14/04/2024 19:14

I assume with kids?

The Donkey sanctuary is nice and some lovely coast path walks nearby...including to the nudist beach so watch out!

Pecorama model railway Centre is good for young kids who like trains...or grown ups who like them too.

Seaton tramway.

World of Country Life in Exmouth for farm animals and soft play type of things.

River Exe cafe (on a boat), Exmouth. You can also get the ferry over to Starcross on the other side of the river and from there you can get the train to Dawlish Warren or on to Dawlish. Dawlish Warren has some fairround rides and go karts as well as the lovely beach and nature reserve. You can walk from Dawlish Warren to Dawlish along the sea wall.

Cycle path from Exmouth to Exeter.

Topsham - can drive, get the train from Exmouth or cycle there. Nice shops, restaurants & pubs. Darts Farm for food and shopping.

Near Exeter, Crealy Theme Park.

Greendale Farm shop hsd some animals outside aimed at younger kids.

Wildwood, used to be called Escot, back up near the A30 is a great country park.

Woodbury common is nice for walks.

Bicton Park is great (but expensive) for young kids.

Lovely walk from Otterton Mill (nice for coffee, lunches and ice cream) along the river to Budleigh Salterton. Lovely pebble beach, good for kite flying. Nice cream teas.

A la Ronde is a sweet little National Trust Property near Exmouth.

If you make it all the way up to Exeter then there's a clip and climb on Exeter Quay. Also kayak hire, bike hire, a bowling alley and lots of restaurants. In the Marsh Barton area just along from the quay there's a climbing hangar for bouldering and a trampoline park called ibounce.

Definitely the Donkey Sanctuary. It’s free to park and free to go in. The cafe is excellent. We love going, those donkeys are unbelievably cute and it’s so great to see them being looked after so well.

If you like a carvery, head for The Hare and Hounds. The food there is brilliant.

Exmouth has an amazing beach.

Pottingup · 14/04/2024 23:09

It’s a fab area. Second the suggestions above. It’s also nice to get the boat from Exmouth to Dawlish Warren beach for the day.

TeenLifeMum · 14/04/2024 23:14

Donkey sanctuary, crealy, beach (I think that park has a private beach that’s lovely) and boat trip from Exmouth. Nip round to Exeter if you want a small city visit. my parents live in a village near Exmouth and it always feels like we’re going on holiday when we visit.

TeenLifeMum · 14/04/2024 23:15

Oooh yes Hare and Hound was our discovery just this year. We went there on Easter Sunday for the carvery.

All of this

Donkey sanctuary and wildwood were massive hits for ds10

Great for paddle boarding and sea kayaking. There are hire places off the beach at Sidmouth, Budleigh and Exmouth in high summer or you can find them online to pre-book.
Bicton park are on the Tesco club card vouchers deals for a day ticket.
lovely walking along coastal path think Wanda has covered all the main attractions above.

APurpleSquirrel · 16/04/2024 17:02

But further along the coast is Branscombe beach - very secluded people beach. And Beer is hugely popular - quaint fishing village.
Then Lyme Regis & Charmouth - both great for fossils. You can do an organised fossil hunt at Charmouth (through the visitors centre) where you are taken to the best parts of the beach for fossils.
Exmouth - Rockfish is a fab fish restaurant, but pricey. Ocean has a soft play & bowling indoors if it rains; & there's a great playpark along the beachfront plus a fab ice cream shop.
If you want to go further afield, The Orange Elephant Ice Cream Parlour off the M5 is lovely & has both indoor & outdoor play areas as well as amazing ice cream.
Haldon Forest has footpaths & cycle tracks & usually a Gruffalo trail.
Killerton House is another National Trust place near Exeter.
Exeter museum (the RAMM) is good for a wander if it's raining.
In Seaton a new soft play has opened up at Jurassic Discovery, which should have a museum part by the summer.

All of the above - the donkey sanctuary is wonderful

If you go to Sidmouth for the beach, go to Jacob's Ladder beach rather than the main/town one. It gets more sand at low tide, is quieter and there is a little ice cream/beach shop up the smaller ladder which is fun to go up to. You can either park on the road/steep hill (get there early for a space) or at Manor car park, or it can be fun to walk round there from the town beach on the path that goes under the cliffs - especially if the tide is nearly in.
