I am taking my 7 and 9 year old boys to London tomorrow, and we have booked a slot at the National History Museum. Any tips on either the museum or good things to see or do following the museum visit? Thank you x

Science museum, Kensington gardens play area if it is dry weather

The NHM is amazing - there's so much to see that you won't be able to see everything though. It's really expensive to buy gods and drink there, so I avoid that 😄.

DS just finds London so different to our usual life that even going on the tube etc. is a bit of an adventure.

^food and drink

LOVE the natural history museum. The restaurant in the museum is surprisingly good - really nice pizzas and a good chance to get some energy back. Science museum is just across the road so you could go there too.

We like the British Museum, because the space is so big it feels a lot less stressful during school holidays than the NHM or Science Museum I personally think.

Thank you so much, everyone x

We went to NHM recently, DC really enjoyed the earthquake area.
We stumbled across the Lego shop in Leicester Square. We don't have a Lego shop near us, so it was a novelty to see the giant London themed displays. DC have Lego at home but loved playing with the bricks in the shop!

I think you can still book tickets for the NHM, definitely a good idea compared to having to queue.

HagBitch · 01/04/2024 11:44

Sorry, you've already done that 🙂.

MrsWhites · 01/04/2024 11:52

If you do go into Leicester Square - do not go into the M&M store unless you are prepared to take out a second mortgage for the pic and mix!

We find the coffee shop in the v and a opposite is cheaper

Borborygmus · 01/04/2024 13:33

Do you have to have tickets for the NHM now?

HagBitch · 01/04/2024 13:37

No, I don't think you have to book tickets for the NHM, but it seems to be loads quicker to get in if you do have them.

If you are in South Kensington for the NHM there isn't a lot of point thinking about other areas of London.

NHM is big, may take you longer than you think depending on enthusiasm for museums.

Can also go to Kensington Gardens, have a look at the Albert Memorial and Royal Albert Hall, go to the Science Museum.

There are lots of places to eat near South Ken station.

The basement discovery area of the Science Museum next door is always worth a visit.

Agree about the cafe prices. I'd take sandwiches and drinks or buy them at a local supermarket.

Dare I say a walk along to Knightsbridge and Harrods toy department might be worth a shout.

Thanks everyone ☺️
