Travelling with 18months old on Ryanair

Hello, we will be traveling with Ryanair next months and looking to buy a cabin approved stroller. However, after contacting Ryanair, they said that all of their strollers, despite their size are put on hold and because of their policy you can’t put it in overhead locker.

Has anyone had a problem with that traveling Ryanair? If not, what stroller did you have? :)

You can take one. It just counts as your main overhead luggage. So Ryanair only include free under seat bag, and you have to upgrade to take larger bag.

I have been taking babyzen yoyo the last 3 years. I fold it into the bag before we get to the gate

That’s what I was thinking as I’m buying an extra sit for my toddler since he’s too heavy to be sitting on my laps. But all they said “sorry it’s our policy all strollers need to be put on hold”.
i will be buying a bag and putting like you said, they can’t say nothing then 😂 thanks

I always put in the bag and it’s fine. Why should it matter? If you pay for your extra overhead luggage?

often we pay for priority for two adults and our 3 year old and only take the pram that goes overhead and a small rucksack by feet. When we can technically take x3 overhead and x3 bags by feet, so way under luggage limit ( w Ralph’s pay extra for checked suitcase). Someone could take a larger overhead suitcase full of Haribo and that’s not essential yet allowed.

Hi,has anyone travelled with Ryanair recently with a toddler under 2 with their own seat? I have read their seating policy but it is not clear how my LO wil sit in his own seat. In a car seat? There's isn't one that would fit all Ryanair conditions for seats( he is too big for any infant car seat, he uses toddler car seat). It says that CARES harness is approved to use for but 2 year olds. Any advice appreciated.

@Ivee89 We have travelled with Ds under 2 in his own seat with Ryanair. They aren’t actually allowed in it when seatbelt sign is on. So you still get infant belt to attach to yours and they have to sit on your lap for take off and landing. Then can use own seat for in between for more space basically. It was still
worth it imo.

There aren’t really any car seats nowadays narrow enough, even newborn ones too wide for most plane seats now

Ryan air are usually so quick getting larger items out of hold they'll probably have them on the tarmac as you walk off the plane. I'd far prefer to put a stroller on the hold and carry 18 month old for 100 yards rather than try and deal with an 18 month old and manoeuvring a folded stroller in the aisle of the plane.

I took my 8 month old on a Ryanair flight last month. We didn't buy a travel buggy - we just used our usual Joie Versatrax which was no problem because it folds as one piece. You push it right up to the plane and they then put it in the hold for you, and get it out again when you disembark. It's free with a baby ticket. There was barely enough space on my lap for my 8mo, so you're definitely doing the right thing by getting an extra seat! Also just to be aware, changing facilities in the loo were too small for the baby so we ended up just changing him on our laps.

You can't buy an extra seat, I tried it when we flew with them, we paid for priority boarding as exh was disabled & we had 20 month old ds, I was able to use the stroller to the bottom of the steps then they took it & put it in the hold. We had to wait to retrieve it along with all the other bags in the airport. I vowed to never fly with them again.

BurbageBrook · 03/06/2024 19:03

I would just take your usual buggy. Mine was fine in the hold.

You can definitely buy an extra seat for an under 2 year old. Have done it plenty of times with Ryanair. You need to keep them on you for take off and landing but otherwise they can be in tgeir seat.

Slimeblimeclimb · 03/06/2024 19:11

We normally prefer to check in our pushchair.. Put it in a bag and off it goes... It is free. Then use sling in airport

Caspianberg · 04/06/2024 05:25

You can 100% buy a seat for an under 2. You buy it under first name ‘comfort’ second name ‘seat’. Then have to spend about an hour on Ryanair customer service again after they tell you this to then get a name change. Why it can’t be purchased directly under proper name I have no idea.

Then they have to sit on your lap for take off and landing and any other time seatbelt sign it on. But in between fine on own seat with the regular seatbelt

We once flew when Ds was 23 months and 2 weeks and had to go through the above as he was obviously size of 2 year old, but system wouldn’t let me just pay directly without the above hassle

GoldieMam · 04/06/2024 06:15

We have a bugaboo butterfly but folded it’s larger than the Ryanair permitted cabin bag dimensions. We have taken it in the cabin on Jet2 flights but for the Ryanair ones we bought the travel bag and it was taken into the hold at the steps. In the outbound and inbound airports it was at baggage reclaim with the rest of our luggage.

LeafHunter · 04/06/2024 06:25

Flew yesterday with 18m DS. We took this pushchair to the plane where he went in the hold. We asked for it to be left on the tarmac which was no issue. In Palma a month ago it had to go through oversize luggage so we had a sling for him just incase.

We didn’t buy an extra seat because we wanted the extra luggage allowance that comes with an under 2. I asked the cabin crew and they said it isn’t possible to buy an extra seat any more but they will move you to a row with more space if you ask (always have with us).

Hi, I have booked a flight with Wizz Air for me and my 18 Month old. I cannot find any information about whether I can take a car seat for free as checked in luggage( all other companies have 2 items for free but it only says buggy on wizz air website) and no additional information about car seats if you are not actually using them on the plane.
Has anyone travelled with Wizz air this way recently, with the car seat in the checked in luggage?
Did you have to pay for it?
