Travelodge/Premier Inn family Issue

Why is it when you book a room for an adult and a child you have to have a family room and cant book a twin? I know not all hotels have proper twin rooms but when they do, you can only book them if you select 2 adults.

Would I be unreasonable to book 2 twins rooms as 4 adults? Even though it's 1 adult and 1 child in each room. DS will be 15 and those sofa beds or mini beds in travelodge aren't very good. We want proper single beds.

They mostly don't have twins, they have some singles, family and doubles.

Premier Inn has a day sofa that becomes a bed which I believe is a full single, it isn't a pull out sofa bed. If you book 2 children into a room then there is a trundle bed that is stored under the main bed which they make up as well as the sofa day bed but the mattress is glued to the base so you cannot tuck a sheet in. Due to where this is stored ie under the main bed this is smaller than a single.

We used Premier Inn with Ds1 being 17 and almost 6 foot tall sleeping on that sofa bed, Premier Inn didn't know he was 17, just a very tall 15 year old, cough, cough.

A "twin" room in Premier is the main bed plus the single sofa bed made up as a bed. This is how it is done for my two sons, now both over 18. Just select it as 2 adults and it will give you the option of a twin room. There are no twin rooms ie with two single beds in as far as I am aware. We have used Premier Inn rooms for over 20 years, it is our default hotel. You know what you will get. I cannot help with Travelodge as we have never used them.

A few hotels do have twin beds now. It says it on the website. Premier inn Birmingham nec is one I was looking at. Also some of the travel lodges in Birmingham do, it just won't let you book one if you put 1 adult and 1 child.

When I shared a PI room last year with my 17yo son, we had a family room and I let him have the big bed as he's over 6 foot tall!

I slept very soundly in one of the sofa beds and I’m a fully grown adult!

I have stayed in a family room with my 15 year old at Premier Inn. One double and the single that coverts from the sofa (but not a "sofa bed" if you get what I mean). The single was a normal size single bed.
The double was massive though.
We took turns in both beds. I liked the single better - the double is like 3 ft high 😂

Could you not just call one with twin rooms and just ask if it's OK?
Or better yet email and ask, then you have evidence if they agree to it then question it on arrival.

The price is usually the same so why not just book
for 2 adults? I’m fine sleeping on the sofa bed in premier inn, they’re really comfy.

Even when you book a twin room with premier inn you quite often get the double bed and sofa bed. I agree it's annoying that they don't make it clear.

I suppose you’d miss out on their free breakfast if you put them down as an adult

@Kta7 don’t pay for breakfast when you book the room, it’s the same price if you pay on the day and then they’ll know it’s a child!

I've stayed in several PI in proper twin rooms so they definitely exist! Just book as 2 adults and if they say anything when you check in say there was a last minute change of plans (if you pay in advance what are they going to do?)

Good point about the free breakfast. He'll be 15 though and eats more than most adults! so wouldn't mind paying for him tbh.

@NCfor24 yes but he will be sharing with his dad. Neither of them will want the sofa bed. I can just pretend he's an adult.
