Science Museum - what's it like now?

I suppose this does come under UK Travel... but thinking of going again to Science Museum soon in Easter holidays with DNephew and his DP's (my DB), but last time we went when he was 2, (so about 4 years ago), we found it was a bit rubbish, dated and so on. We were comparing this to when we went as kids in 70s/80s but I've been there in recent years for Science Musuem lates.

Is it the same as this now or is it any better? It had a flight simulator I think at the time.

You have to book and pay for all the interactive bits. If you go at the weekend it will be rammed with families, if you go during the week it will be packed with school groups.
I'd give it a miss unless there's something you particularly want to see

It's fine if you're in the area and want something to do for a few hours. The IMAX cinema is good. It's not amazing so I wouldn't make a huge effort to get there.

During the Easter holidays the free bits are likely to be absolutely rammed so I would look at booking some of the bits you pay for too.

We did book and pay for an interactive bit last time.

I don't get the IMAX cinema bit - that's in Waterloo and Science Museum is South Ken.

I think we might give it a miss for now or do another museum.

We tried the London science museum few years ago and were bitterly disappointed. We wanted to take kids to London for a screen free day…almost every exhibit in the museum was screen based 😵‍💫 queues were horrendous. Winchester science center and The Lookout in Bracknell were a thousand times better.

There is an IMAX in the Science Museum.

Obviously I meant that one....not the one in Waterloo.

It’s been ages since I’ve been to the science museum but I wholly agree with Winchester Science Centre - it’s really good, very spaced out, lots of exhibits, and there’s a planetarium too!

This may not be at all helpful if you’re looking for London museums, but if you’re anywhere near SW London area I’d highly recommend Brooklands transport museum for that age group. It’s really excellent, loads of cars, racing simulator thing, planes to go in, old buses - just loads. I don’t even like cars and I enjoyed it!

I didn't enjoy it, the main bit is not that interesting for kids and the Wonderland bit was full of school kids.

However, I would highly recommend the Science museum in Amsterdam and have heard good things about the one in Paris too.
