We live in hertfordshire and really want to venture out to Wales... specifically south wales, as it's around a 3 hour 30 minute drive from us. Can anyone recommend a nice area with a sandy beach and things to do with a 3 year old?

Thanks!

When are you looking to travel? What types of activities are you looking to do and would you have transport?

There are lots of beaches in south wales, Porthcawl, Barry Island, Llantwit Major, mumbles etc.

Ah yes, sorry, that would have been helpful to mention! We're looking at late June. We'll be coming by car, and would like farms / zoos / wildlife parks or any adventure parks. DS will be nearly 3 and likes running riot outside!

I love Wales, we used to go when I was about 7-14 yrs old. It was often very wet in summer. I’m not sure I’d recommend it as a beach holiday destination.

Burry Port is nice with Pembrey Country park nearby, gorgeous sandy beaches, bike track, toboggans, lots of events in the summer. It's perfect for toddlers!

If you have a car then I would maybe suggest staying close to Cardiff. Easy links to lots of areas and also good public transport which can take you to the beach. Some nice activity places to do with children apart from the beach such as techniquest, St Fagins and mountain ranch view which has a gruffalo trail which are not that far away.

If preference is beaches then my personal opinion would be mumbles which is close to Swansea

We love holidaying in Pembrokeshire which may not be quite where you're looking but the beaches are gorgeous. St David's and Mwntbare particular favourites of ours. However we camped last summer and it was a complete wash out! The summer before was absolutely glorious and we had several beach days.

on the way there- or back- you could check out noahs ark animal farm in bristol. we went a few years back but loved it. very interactive zoo/farm so it's great for little ones.

not really south Wales but I've heard bluestone is a great holiday park for younger kids

I meant to add my kids are primary age now but we've been going since they were toddlers and there was always something for them to do.

When ours were that age we had some lovely holidays at Bluestone in Pembrokeshire. Folly Farm is a nice day out (zoo / farm / fair type place).

West wales is typically more beach holidays with Tenby, Saundersfoot for example and this is where Bluestone, Folly Farm, Manor Adventure, Dinosaur Park and Oakwood are. In the car about an hour drive from Swansea and 1 hour 30 from Cardiff so could be doable for a day trip if South Wales is your first choice
