Planning a few days in Cardiff by car, so need a hotel with parking. Ideally not too far from the centre and Cardiff City Stadium, as we will be going to an evening game. Any ideas?

On previous occasions we've visited the Cardiff Bay area and the castle but as we have the car this time, we can go further afield. Suggestions welcome. Considering Castell Coch and Caerphilly but wet weather suitable ideas would be especially welcome.

Oh, should add: two adults, no children on this trip.

Angel hotel is smack bang in the middle of the centre parking is £15 for 24 hours I think. Breakfast is lovely and beds are comfy and rooms nice. Reasonable too. If your wanting posher you have the vale hotel or the Celtic manor but are about 15 mins away from cardiff central.
Air bnbs are good you get more for your money.

Indigo Hotel is central - discounted parking in Greyfriers but not sure how it works for multiple exits (it’s normally x amount for 24hrs).

Hilton I think also does NCP discount parking.

Staybridge Hotel technically in the Bay Area but you can easily walk into town. Think car parking is £10 per 24hrs. The rooms are all fitted with mini kitchens, free breakfast - I definitely recommend.

If you have the car St Fagans Museum of Welsh life is worth a visit - free entry, carpark £6.

The National Museum (free entry) if you want to be indoors (depending on your dates there’s a new Selfies exhibition you should look at).

Castell Coch I always find a little disappointing but if the weathers good the walks around the grounds are lovely.

Cardiff is a lovely compact city.

We stayed at the Parkgate hotel, they have a deal with the ncp opposite, it’s right next to the stadium, 2 minute walk to the castle. Was really good.

Is that the national (Millennium) stadium? It's the Cardiff City football stadium we're going to.

That was going to be my suggestion, we had a couple of nights in Cardiff and enjoyed that.

ThePoshUns · 19/02/2024 22:30

The park gate overlooks the millennium stadium.

Maybeicanhelpyou · 20/02/2024 08:29

Sorry, yes the Parkgate Hotel is next to the Millennium Stadium

ThePoshUns · 20/02/2024 20:20

Ooh thanks @Witchbitch20 , I'll definitely pop down to have a look

Witchbitch20 · 20/02/2024 20:35

@ThePoshUns no worries! It’s ticketed but donation based - so minimum of a £1.

We're back from Cardiff. Stayed in the Pontcanna district which has some fabulous restaurants and bars.

Thanks for the recommendation of St Fagans - we enjoyed that and were lucky with the weather. Also went to Dyffryn Gardens (National Trust) which would be fab in summer but not much there now.

The National Museum was OK but the Selfie exhibition as mentioned by PP wasn't open yet. I expected to learn something about the history of Wales but it was pre-history (dinosaurs etc) and art. Did enjoy the art.

Also went to Cardiff Castle - disappointing how few rooms you see for the money. It seems you have to pay for one of the guided tours to see more. I first went there decades ago and I'm sure there was more included in the standard admission. The Pugin interiors are still gorgeous.

Hi,

I am thinking of moving with my family (husband and daughter ) to Somerset, my husband works for a company in the area. Currently we live in London and he commutes once a month. But we are thinking of going up that way for more space to lower our Mortage and hopefully open a workshop in the area(we are shoe makers) .
I have one main worry that is maybe silly but it’s still very real. We are a mixed couple my husband is half African and our daughter obviously mixed. My husband doesn’t seem to care and thinks it will be fine, if we move to an area like Glastonbury especially, but I really don’t know. I love that part of the world it’s so beautiful but I really don’t want to move somewhere and be treated funny.

can anyone give me any insight into this.
we need a nice committee of people, creatives , open minded , some nice shops and things going on and good nursery and schools.

Thank you x

@MimiFrancis you should start your own thread about this as few people will see it here.

Somerset is becoming increasingly diverse. When we moved out here 10 years ago it was very monocultural (we came from Slough- it was a shock!) but things have changed in that time. Glastonbury is full of all sorts of folk! I'm not sure I could live in Glasto full time though- most of the shops and activities are 'alternative' and you'd really need to be into that to want it all the time I think.

Wells is glorious and has good schools. Frome is nice too (more hills). Either give you easy access to Bath and Bristol for more to do.
