Children Travelling on London Underground?

Apparently they are free - but it was such a palaver getting DD through the barriers (very unhelpful staff)

Is there anyway she can have a ticket to get through the barriers or is it impossible for a non-london resident and occasional visitor?

I think you have to pay £1 in off peak times

Hulababy · 20/03/2008 23:02

DD did have a ticket when we went on the Underground last ime, but she was free.

KatyMac · 20/03/2008 23:02

Do I - oh bugger - I defrauded LU - not intentionally I promise

Children under 11 are free.

RTKangaDYSONMummy · 20/03/2008 23:04

That explains why DS has an OYSTER card then cos he is 12

KatyMac · 20/03/2008 23:04

Oh so I only need to worry for 8 months

Or alternatively they glare at you and say alternatively 'Why', 'Use your ticket', 'Push her in front of you' or 'Huh?'

X post - sorry

Aha - I know why

DD is tall & grown-up looking so they thought she wasn't young enough

My sons are pretty assertive about asking the staff to let them through the gates and we have never had a problem. Small children enjoy crawling through the bit where the luggage gets pushed through. I wouldn't advise letting your child go through the barrier at the same time as you unless you can carry them child - you can get a nasty bruise!

DD only get to London 4-6 times a year - so this trip I was encouraging map reading as I was very upset by the 19yo on here who couldn't manage the underground

I guess 'asking for help' comes next time
