Bluestone Wales & surrounding area

I’m planning a family holiday in July to Bluestone in Wales - first time going so hoping some of you can help with the planning. Our kids will be 8 and 6, one with ASD who loves the outdoors and animals, the other who is more active and loves water parks, playgrounds, arts and crafts.

Is a week too long or just right?

We’re coming from Dublin and our sailing options are to Holyhead (easier at our side), Fishguard and Pembroke (both require driving in Ireland before sailing). I like a holiday with multiple stops so I’m happy to sail into one port and out another if it’s worth it (e.g. I’m thinking perhaps stopping around Snowdonia for a couple of nights on the way to Holyhead before sailing home). But then should we think about visiting a city and having a couple of nights in a hotel (kids love a buffet breakfast!)? Swansea or Cardiff? We’ve never been to Wales so would like to make the most of it.

Any advice on both Bluestone and that area of Wales in general would be greatly appreciated!

You will love Pembrokeshire! Lots to do with your aged children there. You have Folly Farm 5 mins away from Bluestone which is brilliant. Heatherton about 15mins away which is another great day out. The Dinosaur Park is also just outside Tenby. You also have Tenby and saundersfoot to visit for the beach and seaside town experience. As well as the smaller villages of Amroth, manorbier, Coppet Hall for more seaside beach experience. You can take a boat trip to Caldey Island from Tenby for a more relaxing day out. A bit further afield but easily doable is Bosherston Lilypnds which lead to the gorgeous Broad Haven South beach. Freshwater West beach is a must to visit. It is one of the best beaches in the world. BUT it has an extremely strong current so not safe for children to swim. Pembroke Castle is worth a trip and a walk along the Mill Pond to feed the swans. You can also take a small boat out for a row which is good fun. Carew castle has a nice walk around it and you can go crabbing off the bridge. North Pembs offers St. Davids, Scolton Manor, Broadhaven North beach.
I recently stayed at Bluestone and was quite impressed. Lodges are well equipped and comfortable. During the summer they will offer activities as well as the pool. You will have a fab time! X

A week at Bluestone is definitely not too long, especially in July. There’s so much do to in the surrounding area www.bluestonewales.com/discover/adventures/20-things-to-do-within-20-miles I’d definitely recommend a couple of days on the beach and a day at Folly Farm.

Thank you both so much - so good to get recommendations. @Maharajah20 thank you especially for that very comprehensive list - looking forward to researching your suggestions and planning a super trip!
