Haven holiday park recommendations

boysmum89 · 20/01/2024 11:38

We are looking to book a Haven holiday park for the summer holidays - specifically Haven as a friend can give me her employee discount!

Would love any recommendations for favourite sites walking distance to a beach, anywhere around East Anglia, South Coast or even Wales, but not Cornwall.

So far, I’ve seen Hopton near Yarmouth recommended, but would love personal insights as to what people liked about certain sites!

MNHQ update: If you’re short on time, here’s a summary of the best holiday parks Mumsnetters are recommending on this thread:

😎Caister-on-Sea Holiday Park, Norfolk

😎Seashore Holiday Park, Norfolk

😎Wild Duck, Norfolk

😎Hafan y Môr Holiday Park, North Wales

😎Craig Tara Holiday Park, Scotland

For more inspo, check out our guides to the best UK holiday parks, the best Haven sites, and the best Parkdean resorts, all featuring recommendations from Mumsnetters.

We love the deck houses at Caister on Sea, and of course the direct access to a large sandy beach. Seashore, however, has the better swimming complex, direct beach access AND is within walking distance of Gt Yarmouth, if you don’t want to drive.

We love hopton, but it is massive and a drive into yarmouth. Seashore is also very good and as posted above, walkable to yarmouth.

Golden Sands wouldn't be on my list - in a very tired and small resort, beach blocked by huge sea defences, on the way to nowhere so not great for day trips out and limited onsite facilities.

My favourite is Craig tara but that's scotland. We always go last week of August because schools in Scotland go back in the middle of August. Make the stay there cheaper.

That’s a good shout though, maybe for another year! We only want to go for 4 nights this time

Useful, thank you!

Hafan Y mor is a fantastic site in a equally great location

Thank you! I did look at this but thick it might be that little bit too far for us

Thanks, like the sound of both of those for the beach! Not sure it’s worth us staying on park as we don’t necessarily want all the amenities, but at least it narrows the search a bit

We’ve stayed at all the Norfolk ones and we prefer Caister- nicer beach, quieter but you can drive into Yarmouth in about 5 mins. The beach at Seashore isn’t as nice and we just didn’t like Hopton for some reason. Caister also has Planet Spice, The Smokehouse and Castle Carvery all very close by which are excellent for eating out. Wild Duck is a nice site, it’s a bit like a mini centre parcs but no beach.

Wild Duck is excellent - a ten minute drive to Gorleston beach which is lovely and bit further to Yarmouth. The site is really well maintained with lots of activities on site. My kids lived the nature ones with Ranger Mike - a bit different to other Havens.

I have visited a lot of Havens.
Lakeland is a beautiful site but my least favourite due to the small size and lack of things to do. In my opinion it is catered towards older people not kids.
I disagree with the Golden Sands comment as this is one of my favourite sites. It constantly comes up as the cheapest. It is quite small and not so busy. There is plenty of on site activities. They have a seal Sanctuary right round the corner which is well worth a visit and a short walk to the beach. They have this kind of train carriage thing that drives you between the site and into Mablethorpe which is so much fun for the kids. I adore Golden Sands.
If you like hustle and bustle and jam packed then Devon Cliffs is huge! The direct and private beach is gorgeous.
Primrose Valley is also very big and with a few fairground rides on it. Not included in the price.
I'm doing my first Caister deck house in a few weeks and am really excited
