Legoland

Hello
Looking to take 8 year old to legoland. Will be during school time and either midweek or weekend, coming from Cornwall so will stay over due to length of drive. Looking at breaks on website is it cheaper to buy tickets and accommodation separately or from legoland website itself? Also any recommendations for when to go when it will be quieter?

Be warned if you book the legoland hotel they automatically book your park ticket for the day of your arrival. We were going for two nights and they booked the wrong day I had to pay for extra tickets at two minutes to midnight to save a tiny bit of money. We never got anything back. The building room in the hotel is lovely not too busy. Restaurant hard to book and poor value but it’s a strain to go anywhere else as parking in Windsor is horrible.

Term time is much quieter..but not so much on a Friday. We stayed in the Premier Inn in Windsor and have also stayed in Slough previous times and have got cheap rooms. We home educate so we get cheaper school rate entry during term time so I'm not sure if you can do it cheaper through the legoland website or not but I know friends have stayed in the legoland until and had a free entry to the park the next day.

It's not worth it imo. Went for my sons 7th birthday and it was crammed.

We went towards the end of October half term there was a threatening weather condition so the park was quiet but it did rain for part of the day

We went a weekend in June, not too busy, stayed Travelodge Windsor with very easy cab to and from the park. Hotels in park looked a bit…. from the outside but who knows. Having heard a lot about crazy queues/hell of Legoland etc I was pleasantly surprised. Qs only annoyingly long right in the middle of the day. We had a great day and Travelodge was cheap and quiet.

My daughter and Grandson stayed at Premier in Windsor.
They love a good Premier Inn and the breakfast.

Hello! We live nearby and go regularly (preschooler). I'd agree that Fridays are busier than other midweek days, the Fridays before half term and in late June / July are particularly busy and some sold out to max capacity in 2023. Also avoid school strike days and inset days as these are super busy.
Even on busy days top tip is to arrive early. The park opens at 10 but you can arrive earlier and be down the hill in the miniland area ready to go on rides by opening time. We've been on very busy sold out days and got on rides before 10am.

Miss the hill train on the way down, the walk isn't bad provided you are able bodied and that will save time.

There are usually big waits for flight of the sky lion so do that first. There is a boat drive ride in Lego city which always has huge queues but which isn't that great! Likewise the land train is such a slow turnaround and you queue for ages.

As for weekends we don't usually go on weekends but I have in the past in September and it's not been terrible.

The legoland app is pretty accurate on queue times, if anything queues are usually shorter than they say (with the exception of the boat driving one and the land train which are nearly always slower!)

My favourite is the haunted house monster party and the submarine (which are right next to each other). The shows aren't our thing but they are very popular. Obviously this is heavily skewed by having a preschooler!

I can't comment on accommodation but you would have the benefit of early ride access if you stay on the park.

Thank you for all of your replies. Son is 8, adhd and autistic and his obsession is Lego so we wanted to do it before he got much older. Would we be able to apply for a disabled pass do you know? Also is one day in the park enough or would 2 be better?

Do consider skipping UK and going to billund. If you go when the danes are in school then each ride is a walk-on and you can also do the Lego house. You can stay 4-5 days and also do all the activities in lalandia.

User478 · 13/01/2024 08:00

Skip Windsor and go to Denmark, if you're staying in the UK one anyway it'll probably be cheaper including flights.

Do a day at Lego House too.

Billund Legoland is much quieter and flatter. (And I didn't see a single wasp, Windsor is about 99% wasp)

Check the Danish school holidays and go when they're at school and you almost have the place to yourself.

scrunchmum · 13/01/2024 08:30

May be worth contacting them in advance, there are ride access passes available at guest services which skip any queues but I'm unsure on eligibility requirements.

If you wanted to make sure you got on everything then 2 days would be better, but one is fine. It's not huge.

My son has adhd and autism and we go a lot to legoland.

You need to apply at least a week in advance for his ride access pass. You then get a website where you pick a ride and then go into a disabled queue. Some rides are hard to get on with a disabled pass (like flight of sky lion).

We can't do the whole park in one day, even with a pass. And my son wouldn't cope if we tried to. So I'd book two days if I was you.

There's a really lovely sensory room if you need a break with some amazing play Lego villiages to see.

WooTheWho · 18/01/2024 21:20

Are you driving? I'd probably book somewhere to stay in Maidenhead or thereabouts rather than Windsor. It's only 15 minutes drive away and much cheaper than a hotel stay in Windsor, and much easier to park as well. Parking in Windsor can be a bit of a nightmare.

Apply for the ride access pass for your son. You need to apply in advance, it is via access card. It is free for just the merlinannual pass or £15 for three years but you can then use it at other venues. If your son requires a significant amount of care you may be entitled to a carers ticket for them. You need a mobile phone that has internet access for the ride access pass. For flight of the sky lion you'll need to get a time to ride via the access pass. They get released at intervals and its a bit like fastest finger first, the first time we tried we got customer services to do it for us. So an adult in your group will get free entry.

There is a Facebook group for merlin pass holders with additional needs, join this as you'll get lots of hints and tips on how best to make your time there work.

Just a thought if you are entitled to a free carers ticket and you're going during term time, have a look at the cheapest merlin pass as you'll get a free carers pass and it may work out cheaper than two days admission. Make sure the pass is valid for the days you go though as the different passes have different exclusion dates.

Baileyscream · 18/01/2024 21:38

I just had a look and here is the link for a carers ticket. If you claim dla that is enough to prove need but you need to take the award letter.

Also, if you've never applied before consider Merlin's magic wand. They'll give you free tickets for your family for a day.
