Roomzz is reasonable and not too pricey. There's also a more budget conscious central Travelodge

Peabody25 · 11/01/2024 21:29

I'd recommend jury's inn!

I've just put a random date in February in and it came up as £87 for two adults and a child in one room! They're good size rooms as well. I've shared before with my mum and sister and we get a double or three singles and been fine.

There's options with breakfasts as well for about £108 and they're lovely. Buffet breakfast and loads of choice.

Thanks for the replies
for my dates
premier inn Piccadilly. Or holiday inn express city centre arena are coming up the best value
are either of these worth looking at
are they in safe areas
i am not coming till July and hope prices might be so high for my dates as it’s so far out.

If say safe but potentially very noisy! I've not stayed in either though, just judging on where they are.

Lolski28 · 11/01/2024 22:14

Thank you
is jury’s inn quiet in your experience
I really appreciate your help

The city centre isn't huge and very walkable, but would say Piccadilly is a bit further out. What do you anticipate doing in the evenings as this is what I'd base my hotel on? Happy to help where I can as DH and I have stayed at a handful and I know Manchester reasonably well.

Lolski28 · 11/01/2024 22:23

Thanks a mill
wont be doing much in the evenings beyond eating out
hoping to go to a show at the palace theatre

It's really quiet. They're now Leonardo hotels and it's the Manchester central one.

Just round the corner from a pizza express and first street bar and kitchen, and six minutes walk to the palace theatre.

There's a q-park car park just over five minutes walk away as well. You're handy for everything without having to be right in the middle of it.

I agree with Peabody, I've stayed in that Jury's and it is nice, don't think I've stayed there with kids but sure you do always get proper beds in them. It's good for walking to the attractions like museums and theatres and about 15 mins walk to the shops. The Midland is a very nice hotel in that area too, old and grand and does feel like a treat when you get a good deal on it, it's been a decade since I stayed there though.
I like staying in Portland St area, there's a Premier Inn and Novotel (my preference) there which we've liked, and an Ibis Budget we didn't like. That is another one that works well for walking places, would be livelier at night as near China Town and a lot of restaurants and bars.
No matter how good the deal is, avoid the Britannia hotel like the plague though!

I’ve stayed at the Portland Street Premier Inn several times, including just before Christmas, never had a problem with noise though i may have just been lucky. It’s just round the corner from the City Art Gallery and not far from the Palace theatre. museums and galleries are rather scattered in Manchester so you’re unlikely to be very close to more than one or two, though it’s easy to get to the others.

Like any big city centre, at weekends in particular, there’ll be people on the razz in the evenings etc but it’s ok. I’d perhaps avoid Piccadilly Gardens in the evening, there are problems with drug use etc there, though the police have been working on it.

For me i’d stay at Premier Inn if i wanted to keep costs down, but if i had more cash I’d stay at the Midland which, as others have said, is very lovely.

Thanks for the reply
will look at those we are coming midweek but of course expect it to be lively in a city
great to have those insights

Premier Inn are generally pretty reliable and there's several in the city centre. You'll probably need 2 rooms though unless 2 of you share the double bed.

CCLCECSC · 12/01/2024 11:10

Look at Staycity Aparthotel. Right by Piccadilly. Easy access to everywhere. Good sized rooms. We had 2 adults and 2 under 6s in an apartment.

@Lolski28 I found this thread while trying to pick a hotel in Manchester. Do you mind me asking where you stayed in the end and were you happy with it?
We're going to Manchester soon for my father's birthday so looking for somewhere central where we won't have to walk too much but will be nice and comfortable.
We were actually thinking of the Leonardo City Centre.

Lolski28 · 11/08/2024 19:01

Marymary77 we ended up in the Maldron city centre
It was nice and quiet location seemed quite good for public transport
but was a good fifteen twenty minute walk to the shops for my mum

Thanks a million for replying @Lolski28! My Dad is nearly 80 so I think we'll have to look for somewhere closer to the action!

loopsngeorge · 11/08/2024 20:12

We are in the Premier Inn Central at the moment and I think it's a fantastic location. Lovely area with the central library and town hall opposite and right by the St Peters Square tram stop so you can go all over the place if needed. All sorts of restaurants and shops in the immediate area. It's v quiet too.

Lolski28 · 11/08/2024 20:48

Yes a bit more central would be better
