and I was hoping to invite my sister and husband for 2 nights there and they would sleep on the floor on airbeds. Is this being cheeky? There isn't a two bed available. It's a remote property apart from one neighbour. I don't know if this is the owner. There is nothing in the Terms and Conditions about extra people other than saying it is for a couple or a solo traveller. Would you chance it? Are renters allowed to have cameras at their property?

So t&cs do specify the number of people as 1 or 2 then.

GoodVibesHere · 09/01/2024 21:29

So there will be four of you?

BernadetteStBernard · 09/01/2024 21:32

We have a holiday rental and the insurance specifies the maximum occupancy for overnight - if anything happened the owners insurance may not be valid, not ideal at all. Best to check with owner.

You’d be double occupying it in breach of the t&c’s

One extra person (and asking) is cheeky. Two is just taking the piss.

that’s terrible, don’t do that. I thought you were really pushing it when I thought there was going to be 3 of you, but it’s 4!

Alicewinn · 09/01/2024 21:41

I wouldn’t worry about it, people do this in my Airbnb all the time and as long as they’re clean and tidy I don’t mind. It makes about 10p difference to my bills

Justwidndering · 09/01/2024 23:39

Update - the number has gone down to 3 now and for one night so I am going to risk it. Thanks for all the comments.

I would do this as long as they didn't mind sleeping on an airbed. I hate those.

If the owners discover you accommodating extra people they would be within their rights to ask you all to leave. Breach of your contract, which probably says something along the lines “ use of the facilities is limited to persons named on the booking form”.

I had a two bedroom cottage (four plus cot) booked for a week. Family arrived, two adults, two children and baby. Within a day or two it became apparent that extended family were staying in nearby caravan park and using my facilities, especially washing machine and tumble dryer. On one day there were two extra cars outside the cottage, and we counted four extra children playing outside. The letting agency said to point out that the insurance and facilities were for the people on the booking form only, and whilst it would be reasonable for visitors to pop in, or meet up at the property, use of the facilities constituted a breach of their contract and they could be asked to leave with no refund. They were pretty pissed off when we told them.

The agency said it is not uncommon for people to sneak in extras, or pretend a four year old is in a cot.

I’ve done it in the past when younger, don’t think I’ve the brass neck to do it now.

No it is a one bed cottage with a double bed which myself and H will sleep in.

Doubling the occupancy of such a small cottage is very cheeky indeed. You have paid for 14 nights (2 people x 7 nights) and are actually getting 18 nights accommodation which is considerably more hot water, wear & tear etc.

If you booked a property to accommodate 6 people you wouldn't think it was okay to ask another family of 6 to join you for the weekend would you?

18 nights? It is one person for one night as I updated.
