We love the lakes and spend a lot of time on the east coast of Yorkshire.

What sort of things do you like doing?

Main tip from experience - about the only holiday we got really wrong when dd was about that age - is don't rent a nice looking holiday cottage in the middle of nowhere. And make sure there's a mix of things to do depending on the weather.

From the midlands, north wales is reasonably accessible and has good beaches but also walking, castles etc.

Thanks for the message

our little one loves swimming

as grown up's exploring the local areas but the wife used to love the relaxing days (those days are gone now with a fussy little one) but most of holiday planning has been left to me

but now little one on tow I’m unsure

I'd recommend having a look at Hoseasons for a lodge on a smallish park. Even better if there is a swimming pool and a restaurant on site.

Then look for local attractions that aren't dependent on good weather. Consider joining the National Trust or English Heritage and look for properties/attractions near to where you are looking.

We went to Darwin Forest when DC were a similar age but might be a bit too close for you. Lots close by - Chatsworth, Matlock, Gulliver's' Kingdom, Peak District if you want to walk. ThomasLand not too far away.

Somewhere around York / Scarborough could be another option or Devon.

At that age it doesn't really matter what you do - it's just a change of scenery and the chance to see some different places. I'd think about taking plenty of easy meals for the evening and then planning to eat out at lunchtime so you get a bit of a break.

Isle of Wight ?

HotChocolateWithCointreau · 27/12/2023 17:24

We love Norfolk. Relaxed vibe, excellent beaches. There's a brilliant outdoor play park called Bewilderwood too.

Haven holidays are great with really little ones

Christmassss · 27/12/2023 17:26

We used to enjoy caravan holidays with our little ones.

Depending on funds/snob value either Centerparcs or a haven holiday on the beach (there's a good one near Bournemouth), so you have swimming, activities and a beach for buckets and spades

When DD was a toddler/pre-school age we went to the Isle of Wight, Devon and Norfolk.

We found a cottage the best but choose wisely, have a pub/restaurant in walking distance, a playground or a wood nearby. A town with a pool is great for bad weather or softplay.

Derbyshire is also worth looking at.

Do consider a National Trust membership, we spent hours in their gardens, woods and stately homes.
English Heritage depends on the area but I found it better when DD was at school age.

We like Searles in Hunstanton. It’s got a good splash pool and a soft play. You can pay extra for a lodge with a hot tub.

Bluestone in Pembrokeshire is lovely. Like Centre Parcs but cheaper and near gorgeous beaches.
