Where to eat before Palace Theatre Manchester?

We're travelling in to Manchester next month for Hamilton at the Palace. Between covid and small children we've not been to Manchester for years and I have no idea where to eat! It's a matinée and starts at half 2 but says arrive at half one? We could drive in or get the train.

Bundobust! It's a veggie Indian brewery (sounds odd but is AMAZING) all small plates and reasonable prices. Plus you can see the Hamilton queue whilst you are having your pint. Me and my husband went last week and managed to time the queue perfectly only having to go in about ten minutes before it started as we could see there was no wait time. Loads of seats and it's something a bit different.

What do you want to eat? There's tonnes of restaurants around there. I came on to say Indian Tiffin Room at First Street is my favourite pre/post theatre. Also at first Street is a cultural centre called HOME that has a good cafe for lunch. If you can get off the train at Oxford Rd or deansgate then it's nearby.

San carlo on the corner of St Peters Square is lovely (forget its full name: mught be san carlo fumo) its Italian. Also Gios on lower mosley Street we like it for standard Italian and definitely been pre-theatre before. It's been there at least 20 years.

Chinatown isn't far. I like red chilli but something more upmarket is the yang sing. My fave Thai is on Princess street:Koh Samui

If you don't mind being further away there are some fab restaurants around spinningfields (8mins from deansgate Station). Australasia is sushi and pan Asian upmarket and expensive, there's Sexy Fish which I'm dying to try. There's a Brazilian called Fazenda which I'm not a fan but appeals to meat lovers. I think spinningfields is top far for you really. I do it because I park there at work then walk to the Palace is 15 -20 mins.

I second this, the food here is amazing!

Just came on to say Bundobust too!

Thank you everyone that's really helpful! I'll work my way through the menus.

As to what we'd like to eat, we're pretty open. We're definitely not foodies and prefer simpler food but like Italian, Indian, Mexican, Spanish.

I was going to say there's a cracking little Japanese restaurant just around the corner called Waku Waku.

It's new and it does get busy on weekends. The set meal option is very affordable.

But I'm not sure it sounds like your type of food.

It's a fun experience though and food was good.

I think their menu is a bit of a pain to find but is searchable if you Google them - it's on their Instagram page.

The new black and white Japanese restaurant that looks like a cartoon

Waku Waku on Portland Street was inspired by the two-dimensional cafes popularised in South Korea

I've heard really good things about the touring production version - I've seen the West End show three times now (I'm a bit obsessed) and I bloody love it!

PurpleReindeer1 · 07/12/2023 12:51

It was incredible. My 14 yo daughter is obsessed And watches the Disney plus one several times a week and is always listening to the songs. She was in tears

Theduchy · 07/12/2023 15:33

Thank you! We can't wait! We've watched the Disney one dozens of times and never seen it live.
