Is Hornsea worth a visit? Would like to stay at a seaside place close enough for a day trip or two to York!

Just that really.

I can see that obviously Bridlington is a much larger town (?) but Hornsea looks quite nice on google maps - we’d like to stay somewhere with a nice beach and a few shops etc but fairly quiet ish and then have a few days out going to York and bigger / busier places. (Ds aged 11 has autism and loves the beach but would also like to visit York for various reasons). We live in Norfolk so have no knowledge of the area!

Any experiences or recommendations gracefully received!

We live near Scarborough and Cayton Bay is my favourite beach - quiet but it has a kiosk for ice creams and drinks and there’s great fossil hunting as well as loads of sand. There are a couple of decent holiday parks there too. Only downside is loads of steps down to the beach. It’s easily close enough to york for a day trip as well (better than Whitby).

Hornsea is ok but quite dreary if weather bad. Not many amusements etc. Also beach is quite pebbly in places. And lined with wooden breaker things so walking on it is not feasable.

Not a lot in Hornsea tbh and not the best Beach.

The beach at Filey is stunning, loads of space but not a lot in the town.

Scarborough would be easiest from York, beautiful beach and park. A harbour and lots of places to eat.
