London on the cheap

Hiya,

I’m taking my 2 DCs to London next Sunday (just overnight) and I really can’t afford to do much there but they haven’t had a break for a while and they’re really excited, so, I’ve found a cheap Premier in and I’m going to drive down Park in North London and get the tube in.

I’m looking for cheap/free things to do whilst we’re there.

So far we’ve decided to go to The Garden at 120 (free)
A wander around Shoreditch/Brick Lane and Camden as teenage son is really into street art & markets.
A walk around Oxford St (daughter is desperate to go to Primak :s ) so we’ll have a look at some other shops too.

They’re not really interested in the museums (I’m pretty gutted about that as I love them)

we wanted to try to catch a show or go to just one attraction but it’s so so expensive.

Does anybody have any suggestions or something different/interesting or any tips on getting discounted tickets

DCs are 11 (daughter) and 16 (son)

thank you ☺️

Hi Ducking,

It's a shame that they aren't really into the museums as many are free. You may be able to entice them with some of the more unusual ones such as The Viktor Wynd Museum Of Curiosities, Fine Art & Natural History in Cambridge Heath (you can walk from Brick Lane through the Columbia Road Flower Market depending on which day you go). There's a lot of street art around Brick Lane so make sure you download a map with it all on (or transfer the locations to Google Maps on your phone). There's also Brick Lane Beigel Company to check out as well as all the market. There is also the Amy Winehouse walking trail of street art in Camden.

There's also the Grant Museum of Zoology which is free (or it was, we've not been for a few months) and that's always been a hit with teenagers for us.

From Camden you can walk along to Abbey Road and recreate the famous Beatles Cover as well...

You should use the Days Out Guide website where you can get 241 on loads of attractions, although if there is 3 of you, you'll still have to pay full price for one, but might be worth a look!

I've used this loads of times and they never ask for a train ticket.

2FOR1 days out in London | National Rail

We are offering 2FOR1 days out in London, including over 150 offers to top London attractions, restaurants, theatres, exhibitions and more, when you travel by train to London!

Horizon 22 if it's not booked - highest viewing gallery in London, sort of. It looks down on the shard but because it's on higher land or Sky Garden

Thanks all!

horizon 22 is fully booked.
the zoology museum is closed temporarily.
I’m worried about using the 2 4 1 deal
in case they do ask for a train ticket and then I’ll have wasted money
