As the title says really.

DH and I would probably spend around £300/night on a hotel. But now we're looking at a bigger room (with an additional lounge) is £600/night roughly average? This is for a special occasion and slightly more than mid-range. It's advertised as a "luxury country escape" just west of west London. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect for holidays and staycations going forward.

It's impossible for anyone else to judge, OP.

It's down to personal preference.

What would you spend the extra £900 on if you went for the £300'per night room?

Would you be very very disappointed if the £600 room wasn't as special as you thought?

What do the reviews say?

Well your expectations going forward are a personal thing surely, based on what you can afford?

DogsDinner · 25/10/2023 10:56

I would assume a £300 room is pretty nice anyway, so are you sure you're not just spending double because it's a special occasion without getting much benefit from it?

In your situation, I would take the £300 room, and use the saved £900 for some outrageous luxuries, or just save it so I could have another weekend away.

But if you really want to try the expensive place, and it won't break the bank, then go for it!

3WildOnes · 25/10/2023 11:02

I personally wouldn't spend that much. I like to go on quite a few breaks a year and I couldn't afford to if I spent that much on each one. You might be far richer than me though. We usually spend about 1k on small a holiday cottage for 5-7 days in the UK. Hotels we probably spend max £200 per night.

No, I wouldn't personally spend that much either. My budget is £50, £60 in London, which pretty much limits me to Travelodge. Fortunately I like Travelodge!

I do sometimes look at fancier places though.

Have you been away recently? I almost never see travelodge for less than £100 it's silly money now! We've swapped to small b and b. Quality can be a bit variable 😬

Op as others suggested my concern would be that you feel disappointed if the room isn't what you expect for that price

DogsDinner · 25/10/2023 11:27

It's been a lot harder to find good deals at Travelodge this year for sure, especially London. I'd got used to covid prices, stayed in some very nice ones which now rarely go below £100, sometimes over £200Shock

Scottishlanza · 25/10/2023 11:29

Depends on how long you’ll be in the room. For me it would be a no, I’d have a much cheaper room and more money to spend when out and about on your trip. Nicer meals etc

AuntieDolly · 25/10/2023 12:03

I wouldn't because I'd prefer 3 weeks in a Greek apartment for that money, but that's just me.

MCOut · 25/10/2023 13:37

I think (if you chose good midweek dates) you could get a nice upgraded room at one of the outright luxury 5* country house hotels near London for £600pn. Some of the rooms that go over £1000+ come down during those times. Personally, I don’t think that they’re worth it because I prefer to go abroad and get an equally five star experience somewhere I haven’t been. It’s really sad that staycations are so expensive.
