Harry Potter World WB Studios - Any suggestions of a nice local place to have lunch first?

Hello folks

We're booked to go to HPW in a few weeks and have 5pm entry tickets.

It's a Saturday and we're coming from East Mids down M1 and are booked in the Premier Inn Kings Langley. Plan is to drive down late am and have a nice lunch somewhere, check in then head to the studios and take a cool box with a carpet picnic and a tonne of wine for tea when we get back.

I've googled places for lunch and nothing is grabbing me so wondered if the power of MN could assist and recommend anywhere?

Ideally somewhere equidistant would be good. There will be 3 of us including 15 year old DD and other than not being crazy about Thai we're happy to eat anything. Would prefer somewhere small and indie over a chain but will eat at one of overall it's the best option.

Thank you Grin

The Bell Inn at Bovingdon

We aren't from London, but whenever we are down that way, we always like to go to a Megans. There's one about 20mins away from the studios in St Albans and whilst I've not been to that particular one, the others I've been to have all been really good

The Waffle House in St Alban's. They do savoury main course waffles as well as sweet ones.

Ooh fab, thanks I'll check these out.

Although we are lazy buggers and once we've arrived at our destination we don't like to drive more than ten minutes for grub Grin

Oh, forgot to put in original post somewhere with easy parking would be a big bonus

Kings Langley High Street has a couple of independent restaurants,

Oscars, a pizza place.
Dallings.
Cinnamon Lounge, Indian.
Miller and Carter, steak place , I think it's right next door to the PI.
Paper Mill pub.
Rose and Crown pub.

Tarboush in Watford does delicious Lebanese food

Have a look for restaurants in Rickmansworth, which isn't too far away. Lots of choice of cuisine. Maurizio's or Zaza for Italian!

A more expensive option is The Glasshouse at the Grove Hotel, which is a gorgeous, luxury buffet. Will be especially lovely if you're going near Christmastime.

Can I ask - do you happen to know what parking is like at Kings Langley on a Saturday afternoon? Oscar's could be a contender ...

The Stables at The Grove is much more reasonable than the Glasshouse. Both are lovely and no further than 10 mins from your hotel.

Hellish.

You could walk from the premier inn to Oscars pizza in under 5 minutes.
There's also prime in chandler's cross which is popular

I’ve been to Oscar’s with DD. Really friendly warm welcome and we enjoyed the food. Never had a problem parking in King’s Langley. It’s a small place so you won’t spend time stuck in traffic etc. there.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/10/2023 21:46

Oscars it is - we all love Italian and DD would eat pizza every day if she could so perfect.

Thanks everyone for posting, it's been really helpful x

If you struggle to park on the high street, there's a car park on Langley Hill and another at The Nap (follow signs for Library).

Oscar's is fab. Huge menu, great quality, friendly staff.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/11/2023 17:44

Evening all

We had a lovely lunch at Oscars (gorgeous lasagna) then coffee and a nice slice of orange, pecan and olive oil cake over at Fred and Gingers. Thanks for the suggestions!

Also HPW was lovely in the evening. Still buzzy and busy but not mental like in the day time. And it was Hogwarts at Christmas Grin

Kings Langley Premier Inn however was a bit shabby but did the job.

Thanks again folks!
