Travelling from Paddington to Fleet street

I haven't been to London for around 8 years and am not too familiar with the train/underground system. Can anyone tell me please if I can use underground to get to Fleet street once I get to Paddington by train? The closest underground station to Fleet street seems to be Trafalgar or Charing cross.

Use the Citymapper app. That will tell you the best way.

I would think St Paul’s on the Central Line is the nearest. Bakerloo Line to Oxford Circus and change to Central Line. You do have a walk to change lines but it is all sign posted.

If you are more confident walk from Paddington to Lancaster Gate and then it’s Central Line to St Paul’s.

The Bakerloo Line to Charring Cross then a Bus No 15 to Ludgate Circus is another option.

City mapper is excellent. The Bakerloo line goes from Paddington to Charing Cross in any case. There isn’t a Trafalgar Sq tube station.

Temple is the closest tube for Fleet Street, you can get the circle line from Paddington. It’s not the fastest route but it’s direct with no changes

Bakerloo line tube to Charing Cross and then bus (or walk - it's not far)

I work on Fleet Street several months a year and come into Paddington. The fastest way now is undoubtedly Elizabeth line from Padd to Farringdon about 7 mins) and then a short walk back to Fleet Street. If you don’t want to do that/have heavy bags then the easiest way is circle line to temple. Faster than that is - usually- bakerloo to charingcross and a bus down the strand from there.

the Lancaster Gate - St Paul’s route looks good on paper but is not.

The Elizabeth line runs through Paddington. Jump on it. You will have to change to get on the central line at Tottenham Court Road but the Elizabeth line is so much fun. Its like a trip to the future.
What's at Fleet Street? I sometimes end up there when the tubes break. My station is Blackfriars. Only station built actually on a bridge!
Elizabeth line is purple on the map if you are looking for it, because of the late queen. Who being a real Londoner visited immediately it opened!

I used to do this commute daily - my old office was on Fleet Street. Rather than going all the way to Paddington, get off at Ealing Broadway then take the Central Line to Chancery Lane - Fleet Street is a 5 minute walk away. Much easier to change between the train and tube at Ealing as you only have to hop over to the next platform.

Cross posted. I didn't know Farringdon was that close to Fleet Street. Elizabeth Line is the gift that keeps giving.

What’s at Fleet Street? Centre of legal London. Royal courts of justice, middle and inner temple, lots of barristers chambers and law firms.

Love love love the lizzy line 💕💕💕

As someone else has said, by far the quickest, nicest and easiest way to get from Paddington will be to go to Farringdon on the Elizabeth Line if you are able to walk from there. Another much slower way would be to get on the Circle Line at Paddington and get off at Temple or Blackfriars. This might get you closer to your destination, depending on which end of Fleet Street you're going to.

Delphigirl · 22/10/2023 10:45

Also a good tip is that if you have an off peak return train ticket into Paddington and your day is cut short so you want to return in peak time, you have 2 options. 1. Sit at Paddington until they finally let you on an off peak train 2. Get the lizzy line all the way to Reading and change onto any train to your destination there. The off peak hours end earlier if joining at reading and although the lizzy line is quite a long journey, it is much better than sitting at Paddington!

Good thing about both Lizzy and circle is both have air con. Bakerloo much hotter and airless.

Roliepolieolie · 22/10/2023 10:55

Wow thank you everyone 😊 such a great help. I will download the Citymapper app. The Elizabeth line to Farringdon looks like the best option I think.
