Is it ok for a night for a uni visit?

Thanks :)

Not stayed there, but I've been to Broadway Plaza.
The car park underneath feels safe when I come out late in the evening.

I don't know what car you are driving, but do be aware that is right on the edge of the Clean Air Zone. Fine on that side of Ladywood Middleway, but you are in the CAZ once you cross over the inner ring road (Ladywood Middleway) - which you won't need to to get to the University, but M6 does take you through it.

You can walk into the City Centre from there, if you wanted to - bit far probably to walk to the University.

I think it would have the potential to be pretty noisy at weekends. Broad street is nightlife central.

usingchangeofname thank you, that’s really useful. It sounds like you have some local knowledge, can you suggest anywhere to stay closer to the uni? All the hotels I could find were more city centre.

Tiptoptommy thank you, it’s for a Friday night so good to know!

The walls are thin, but it’s ok

Postboxwatcher · 02/10/2023 23:55

Challenge Anneka, thank you for replying, I’m glad it’s ok, am going to have to hope we have quiet neighbours 🤞🏻

The Plaza isn't on Broad Street though, it is on Ladywood Middleway.
You wouldn't hear party goers from there.

You could have a look on the other side of the University....... I have no idea about prices, but there is a lovely hotel in Bournville called The Old Barn Hotel, or there is the Bournbrook Inn on the other side of Bournville Station. (Both with free car parks belonging to the places, or both a very short walk to Bournville Stations)
There is a new one opened today called The Cotteridge Inn which would be close to Kings Norton Station for you https://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/the-cotteridge-inn.en-gb.html?aid=356980&label=gog235jc-1DCAsoUEISdGhlLWNvdHRlcmlkZ2UtaW5uSDNYA2hQiAEBmAEJuAEXyAEM2AED6AEBiAIBqAIDuALIku2oBsACAdICJDdkNjkxNmI4LTM0NTEtNDBmOS04Y2Q0LTNjNWQ0YmVmZTkxY9gCBOACAQ&sid=596fcf086884ce49318e7cfc6e5e446c&dist=0&keep_landing=1&sb_price_type=total&type=total& (not to be confused with the Cotteridge Village Inn, which is a Toby Carvery and doesn't have rooms).
Has literally just opened so won't be any reviews yet and not many people will have heard of it.

Or a bit further out - Premier Inn on Great Park in Rubery. Particularly if you came in to Bham along the M5.

I’ve used the travelodge by the train station and it’s fine, even nice for a budget hotel. I prefer it over the premier inn, it’s much nicer.

UsingChangeofName · 02/10/2023 23:59

Ooh, that wasn't meant to be a big advert Blush I literally have no idea what it is like as they had an open day today for people to go and look round. It used to be a social club and they have converted it into a hotel.

I know the Old Barn is nice, but I presume the price would reflect that.

Stick with the Broadway Plaza if you want to see the City Centre, but if you are just looking for somewhere to lay your head overnight, then meeting your ds or dd for the day and spending time together, I'd go for the Rubery Great Park one for a bit more peace.

Postboxwatcher · 03/10/2023 00:05

Northby thank you for replying, sounds like I should be ok!

Usingchangeofname thank you so much for taking time to give me some more info I really appreciate it. I think I will stick with the Travelodge this time as am going with my dd to an open day and I think she’d like to see the city centre. Sounds like it should be ok for a night. Travelodges are a bit mixed I think and just needed reassuring that it was an ok one 🙂

The Plaza isn't on Broad Street though, it is on Ladywood Middleway. You wouldn't hear party goers from there.

I meant hearing them when they come back to the hotel! Personally I would avoid the cheapest hotels closest to nightclub areas on a Friday or Saturday night.

The Premier Inn at the NEC is a nice one. You can get the train from Birmingham International into the centre, but it is a bit of a trudge along that road to the station, and you have to pay for parking.
