London question - does anyone know Stoke Newington Church Street?

I am hoping someone can tell me how to get to Stoke Newington Church Street from central London (I'll be in the Marylebone area but can of course jump on a tube to start the journey elsewhere). I am at a total loss how to get there without needing to take a taxi, there don't seem to be any tubes/overgrounds very nearby. Is there a direct bus from somewhere central?

Bus from King’s Cross

Number 73 from near Angel?

Get the Citymapper app and it will tell you!

PinkRoses1245 · 08/09/2023 22:06

Get the Citymapper app! And there’s an Overground station called Stoke Newington that’s closest

PinkRoses1245 · 08/09/2023 22:07

I’d tube to Highbury & Islington via Oxford Circus and walk or bus from there.

Sourcherriesarebest · 08/09/2023 22:08

Tube to King’s Cross, then 73 from there straight to Stoke Newington church street. That is citymapper’s view <gavel>

whereismysleep · 08/09/2023 22:11

Don't mess about with trains - you can get 1 bus all the way!

The 73 goes from Marylebone, near enough.

It starts at Holles Street. Get it all the way to Church Street. Sit up the top (ideally at the front) for a great view :)

I always get the 73 from Kings Cross.

One more question if I may - would you grab lunch in central London or are there better options on Stoke Newington Church Street?

There are loads of lunch options on Church Street. It's a really lovely part of London. Still has quite a village feel. It doesn't have the tube so everyone cycles or gets the bus

SirVixofVixHall · 08/09/2023 22:39

Definitely have lunch in Stokey

whereismysleep · 09/09/2023 08:09

You'll be spoilt for options for lunch on Church Street :)

That's over an hours walk. You need the 73 bus.

No73 from Oxford Street (walk there from Marylebone)

Come out of MLB High Street and walk the back side of Oxford St (it becomes Wigmore St) as this will help avoid the Oxford St crowds.

When Wigmore St joins Regent St, turn right, head towards the old Top Shop / new IKEA. Turn left and get the bus from outside Uniqlo.

For lunch, I would recommend The Acoustic. Something for everyone there. And the 73 is definitely the best bus to take. It goes right along church street

Go to the TFL website and go on their Journey Planner feature. You can plan a public transport route to any postal address in London.

A 2 minute walk from Church Street is Clissold Park it's beautiful.

My daughter goes to St Marylebone to school every day and we live just off Church Street.

if you live is stokey you know the 73 bus is your best bet. She takes the 73 to Angel, the Northern LIne to King’s Cross and the Metropolitan or Hammersmith and City Line to Baker Street. It is a 6 minute walk to Marylebone High Street, past a Madame Tussaud’s and across the busy road.

I would suggest you give yourself an hour.

Escocesa or Aun are really good. If you want really cheap eats there are pizzerias as well as some amazing Turkish food.

my favourite is Mangal a short walk away on Dalston.

EasternStandard · 09/09/2023 20:01

Have you got access to apps?

Citimapper is incredibly useful

NeedToKnow101 · 09/09/2023 20:06

While you're in Stoke Newington you could visit this lovely independent jewellery shop.. www.louisewade.com. Her physical shop is 8 minutes walk from Stoke Newington Church St and round the corner from Clissold Park..😍

That's over an hours walk. You need the 73 bus.

An hour?! Which way are you walking?!

You walk across Highbury Fields, through residential streets in Highbury Barn and you come out at the top of Church Street, where it meets Green Lanes. Takes 20 minutes if you're dawdling!

And then if you want further down Church Street, you can walk across Clissold Park. I guess Church Street is about 20 minutes, end to end.

It's a nice walk. If you have the time, it's a nice day and you're not in a hurry, this would be a good way to do it also.
