Hello,
I'm looking for some advice please. I'm about to have my first baby and I'm looking to fly to NZ (28-30 hours) when my baby is 1 year old. I'll be flying solo. Is this doable / am I mad? Any advice greatly appreciated!
Thanks

I didn’t book the baby a seat on any of the flights I listed above.

Yes doable, I live in Australia so did this trip at 6 weeks, 9 months etc etc.

Prepare prepare prepare.

I did fun bags with tiny toys wrapped in paper, ipad was not that useful, and made mountains of mini snack bags.

They don't eat the plane food so I usually just order the fruit platter for them,

It's bloody long, and they will sleep, probably on you so you won't get much rest yourself.

Plan for someone to take them from you when you arrive to get a few hours sleep.

Phenergan, works a treat.

Phenergan, works a treat

I used that in the past and it was amazing. I only used it because my paediatrician suggested it and made out I was nuts for not using it. Unfortunately I don't think it's recommended anymore.

I agree, aged 1 possibly the worse age for it! Pre 6 months or after 2/21/2 definitely!

If that's the only window, do bear in mind that even if it's really awful, it's only awful for a day and a half!

You are advised to do a test run with Phenergan; it can send some kids hyper!
