So we have child free visit (Tuesday-friday)to Belfast coming up.

I've booked a table at Holohans for the Tuesday evening and the Peace walls walking tour for the Wednesday morning.

Any suggestions for other must sees and restaurants? Should I book restaurants in advance or just turn up and hope?

Sorry meant to say, we've been told we're not allowed to go to giants causeway without our children 😂
A return trip is required if we want to do this

We had an amazing meal at Yugo when we visited early July. Definitely book as it was full and turning people away on a Wednesday evening (although I think it was one of the university’s graduations that week)

Just got back from 4 days in Belfast.

We got the Airport bus into the city. £12.50 return (valid for a month- buy at the airport or pay the driver)

Day 1: We did the free walking tour of Belfast. 2 hours long and great for getting your bearing. 11am and 2.30pm each day from outside the City Hall. Tip at the end.

We had a picnic lunch outside the city hall and looked around the exhibition inside (free) and went to see the Titanic memorial.

We stayed at an airbnb in the north of the city, so hiked up to the castle to see the sunset and take in the views.

Day 2: We did the bus tour to the Giants Causeway. 10 hour tour stopping at various castles, harbour villages etc. McComb coaches via tripadvisor £30. A fantastic day out, great guide, 2 hours at Giants Causeway and a pub lunch stop.

Day 3: Victoria Centre viewing deck (free), walk through Queens university, Botanical Gardens (free), Ulster Museum (free).
Lunch at Umi falafel near the university (delicious Lebanese food)
PM Belfast Political tour - conflicting stories walking tour. An interesting concept. You tour the Falls road, with its murals etc with a Republican ex prisoner who tells you about the troubles from his community's point of view. He then passes you through the peace wall where a Unionist meets you (ex British soldier) and takes you down the Shanklin Road and tells you his story of the trouble's from his community's point of view. A fascinating tour, but left me frustrated and depressed at how divided the communities still are. £23 per person

Day 4: Crumlin Road Gaol. Very interesting. £14.50
Lunch at Mumbai 27 in the Cathedral Quarter.
Titanic Museum - very busy but a good afternoon. £24.95

Airport bus back to the airport.

(We booked most of the museums, tours via tripadvisor and got 10% off which saved about £20)

Where are you staying?

We live near Belfast and don't eat out much but had a gorgeous meal recently at Howard Street (that's the name of the restaurant and the road it's on!).

If you're near Botanic at lunchtime, go to Lee Garden for Dim Sum. Very good value and so, so delicious.

Always pre book restaurants as they get super busy. Not sure what kind of food you like, we love indian and there are some fab indian places on the Lisburn road but there is an asian one called Zen which looks like something out of a music video and the food is fantastic. For more of a fine dining there is Shu. There is a small one called Blu and the food and service is wonderful although the last time we were there it was very quiet and not much atmosphere. Ryans bar if you fancy a wetherspoons type of meal.

Might also depend where you are staying?

If you get a chance go to The Crown Bar for a drink, it is just beautiful. It is maintained by the National Trust, a little piece of history.

Shurleyknot · 15/08/2023 08:45

Theres a nice little Italian place up the road from the crown actually too - Fratelli it is called. Go after 6.30 though as kids eat free in there till that time and if you are kid free you will not want to be around loads of other peoples!
