St Austell with a broken Arm

I am asking for suggestions for things for a teenager to do in nr St Austell with a broken arm.

We were due to go on holiday to St Austell today but DS broke his shoulder two days ago. We are delaying the holiday (or cancelling depending on how he feels). DS is a typically active teen and the holiday had been based around being active - beach, zip lining, flambards etc. We cant do any of these things now and I'm a bit stuck for things to suggest.

He doesn't really enjoy looking at things - so Eden, Heligan, Museums and Country Houses will be out

the only thing I can think of are
Boat Trips into the bay
Virtual Reality Centre in St Austell (but I'll have to check how active it is and possibility of bumping into people).
Porfell Animal Sanctuary
Tintagel -
Screech Owl Animal Sanctuary
St Michaels mount/St Ives etc - a bit too far away

If we do go, I'd like it to be a much fun as possible for him - without aggravating his healing shoulder.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I would cancel and rebook if possible. Let him heal and then he can do all those things without any issues.

There’s a really good football golf course just outside St Austell.

There’s also an escape room in St Austell but I can’t remember the name.

Even though you say he’s not really into looking at things, the shipwreck and treasure museum is pretty cool. Likewise for Bodmin Jail.

There are pedalos to hire on a fairly decent sized boating lake at Newquay. You steer pedalos one-handed so should be alright.

There are lots of good places for crabbing. We’ve had a lot of success at Fowey.

Owlbabiesarecute - Unfortunately we cant cancel as it was too late for the refund policy. We still might not go though - it depends on how DS feels.

Fivemoreminutes1 - Fantastic suggestions - Thank you!! DD (16 yrs old) was really taken with the pedalos hire idea. I'll have a look at the Escape Room and Bodmin Jail.

Don't bother with Porfell, it's pretty run down.

Fowey for the day, maybe a boat trip to go mackerel fishing.

Venture down to Falmouth, wander round the marina looking at flashy boats, fish and chips etc.

St Michael's Mount? A fair trek from St Austell, but we sometimes went down and made a day of it (I grew up in St Austell).

You could go to other seaside towns like Padstow, St Ives etc and just have a nice bumble around. We've taken self-drive boats out of St Ives harbour before.

These ideas might mean a bit too much driving around for you, but got to be better than no trip at all if you're going to loose your money otherwise.

Sorry for the bad luck. Hopefully we can arrange some sunshine for you so it's not a totally wasted trip.

Ah sorry, see you've mentioned boat trips, St Ives and St Michael's Mount.

Will still try to provide some sun though!

I'm not sure boat trips would work?

when DS broke his collarbone he found any motion like being in a car on a bumpy road or potholes v painful. I'd imagine boats are similar or worse!

eyeblob · 12/08/2023 22:19

Fowwy have boat trips, also can get the ferry to Mevagissey.

Gnomegnomegnome · 12/08/2023 22:29

Do people really go on holiday to St Awful? I’m surprised!

Here's the football golf but it might be a bit jarring for his shoulder

The Escape Room is at the Duke of Cornwall pub. I've done it and it's great fun

But by that time school be back and the weather will be crap. It's at Austell not a trek through Peru

TwigTheWonderKid · 12/08/2023 23:37

Bodmin Jail is great.

We also did the Murder Mystery steam train trip from Bodmin which both our teen boys enjoyed.

itmar1234 · 13/08/2023 15:13

Thank you everyone for these fantastic suggestions - There are lots of places I hadn't heard about before so lots of exploring for us to do. I agree that a boat trip might be too much for him and am worried about the driving too as his arm still hurts him a lot. I'll see how he feels tomorrow and will offer the reservation to a relative if he cant make it.

@itmar1234 a better escape room is Dreadlock between bodmin and st Austell.
