Hot tub not usable for one day of week holiday

We are in a cottage with a hot tub for a week, it's our last day today, going home tomorrow. This morning they came to check on the hot tub and it needed to be emptied and refilled so we can't use it today.
I've messaged the housekeeper and she said it was a scheduled refill, nothing they can do.

I feel like if it was scheduled then they could have let us know in advance

I appreciate they are maintaining it well and keeping it clean but we paid £2,600 for this week and we want to use the bloody hot tub on our last day!

Am I right to be annoyed or should I complain?

Complain - they should have said/given you a discount as they knew it wouldn’t be available.

ItsNotRocketSalad · 11/08/2023 17:43

At £371 a day I would definitely be complaining!

EvenlyDetermined · 11/08/2023 17:46

Complain, if this is the normal procedure it should have been made clear at booking and subsequently.

PuttingDownRoots · 11/08/2023 17:48

Apparently they need emptying between each set of guests... so as it takes time to get up to temperature it can't be used either at the beginning or end if a holiday.

It needs to be made clear however!

Thank you that is my thinking too.
There was no mention of it being unusable for one of the days, I don't think it gets changed after every changeover of guests, but it is checked and adjusted every 2 days

I'll complain to the agency when we're home, there's no point doing anything now as they can't make it heat up any quicker.

I would also complain if it didn't stipulate anywhere it would be unusable. I'd expect to use it every day

I wouldn’t think it’s a big deal tbh, assuming you used it every other night. Plus, hot tubs are vile anyway and she’d want it clean for the next people arriving. Unless you suggest she does it on the first day of new people coming for their holiday?

What do you want from complaining? Money back? An apology? For it not to be cleaned?

It's not changed after each set of guests???? 🤢🤢

That's exactly what I'd suggest and what most places do. Empty the morning of check out and get ready for new guests arriving later that day is it not?

Swimming pools aren't so I don't see why hot tubs would be.

Check your contract. My guess is there is a clause saying that the use of facilities cannot be guaranteed.

Ruth2009 · 11/08/2023 18:39

We haven't rented a cottage with hot tub before so I'm not sure what's the norm, but I expected it to be usable every day, and if not I'd expect them to inform us in advance.

It's not useful to say hot tubs are vile, that isn't especially helpful to me right now

It is very clean and we've been really careful to shower before using it, and we've only used it for about an hour a day anyway because it's so hot

We paid a lot of money to come here as a treat and it was about double what I'd have paid with no hot tub

It’s usually emptied and refilled on departure day, I wouldn’t expect to have the last day without. It sounds like the refill might have been prompted by the water check this morning though, in which case there’s nothing they can do, if it’s below acceptable water quality it needs emptying. I’d enquire whether it’s changed between guests, I’m not sure that’s legally required though. It is different to a swimming pool as the temperature is considerably higher which is favourable for bacterial growth

Hot tubs are kept at a much higher temperature which encourages germs/parasites to breed. They are also in a relatively private setting meaning people are more likely to spill bodily fluids. They should be emptied after you check out but that would mean they would probably not be up to temperature when guests check in.
