Any advice on locations and activities?
For myself, DH + DD (12). We are into National Trust, Heritage sites, history, watersports + general walking/sightseeing. Don't mind whacky ideas!
The area is so big that I'm looking for the best location for as much to do a possible. Area for accommodation must be dog friendly with access to lots of good walking and good food/pubs!

You have to visit Bourton-on-the-Water! Beautiful place and the water is perfect for dogs to have a splash and cool down while also being shallow enough to be safe.
Tewkesbury is good too with the Ham which is a massive grassy area so loads of room for letting your dog get a proper run around. Loads of beautiful history in both those places too! Enjoy your week.

If you're going to visit Bourton-on-the-Water on a nice day, get there early. It's complete gridlock at times and people wait for literally an hour or so for a parking space. Really nice place though.

Also like Burford and a visit to the garden centre there too.

Blenheim Palace is a nice day out.

Cotswold Water Park is great. Beach, boats, inflatables etc

If you are into old cars then the motor museum at Bourton on Water is interesting.

There's the Cotswold Way walking trail which I've been on around Cheltenham at Cleeve Hill and hat was lovely. Looking out over the town below. I think the trail goes quite a long way - I'm sure Google would be your friend on this.

On the edge of the Cotswolds is Oxford a beautiful University city. I don't know if you are allowed into any of the colleges anymore?

Thanks everyone.
I'm veering towards a cottage in Moreton in Marsh so near Bourton and then we could do Stratford for 1 day. Tewkesbury and Cheltenham would also be fairly nearby.

Blenheim Palace is a nice day out.

The palace is not dog friendly but if you park in Woodstock you can walk around Blenheim park for free, dogs on lead but plenty to see including the Harry Potter tree.

cotswold water park is good, you can also do SUP and certainly around lake 32 dogs welcome nice walk around the lake and good bacon sandwiches.

if you just want a bit of wild swimming Buscott weir near Lechlade is a good spot, take a picnic.

Theres some nice walks around Winchcombe near Sudley Castle.

My PiL live between Cheltenham and Cirencester. This is what we've enjoyed over the years:

  • Chedworth Roman villa (NT) - actually in Yanworth
  • YY to Bourton on Water - my dc still love the model village, having visited annually for about a decade. Lots of other stuff in Bourton, to entertain the hoards of coachtrippers.
  • Open air pool in Cirencester
  • Cirencester is not bad for a potter (I prefer it to Cheltenham; ds loves the local history museum, but he's a history geek!)
  • South Cerney Waterpark if sailing, kayaking, SUP etc is your thing. There's a beach there too.
  • motor museum and mechanical music museum in Bourton OTW.
  • A little further afield, the railway museum in Swindon (STEAM)
  • Slimbridge Wetland Centre

The Slaugters (Upper and Lower) are worth a visit, drive through the ford, because they are just so perfect "Cotswold village".

Cotswold Country Park & Beach. They have a man made beach with water sports, we had a blast! Visit stow on the wold also, gorgeous village.

Some great suggestions, thanks everyone. Looks like I will be on the right lines around Moreton area.
Another question: anyone know of any good (must be decent) trekking/riding school in that area who would do 2-3 hour hacks for myself and DD. Both competent riders?
