What to see round Loch Lomond area

Travelling up there for a week and staying in Callander. Plan is to go cycling (no kids), weather looks like it will be awful. Any ideas for any places worth visiting /things to do if it’s too wet to cycle one day?

I keep looking at a map to try and work out what’s close enough to get to. Stirling and the castle there seems an obvious choice. Anything else? Anything really worth driving to further afield which is a must see while in Scotland? Will be going to Edinburgh later in the trip.

Get the little boat from Balmaha to Inchcailloch island and do the circular walk there. It's really beautiful. I'm sure I've done it in the rain and enjoyed it!

Deanston Distillery tour
The swimming pool at the leisure centre in Callander
Spa day at MacDonald Forest Hills

The Falkirk wheel and The Kelpies, the wheel has boat rides, the Kelpies are outdoors but not to be missed.

Queen Elizabeth Forest Park near Aberfoyle - they have a hide to watch red squirrels and several walking trails as well as visitors centre. Boat on Loch Katrine.

If you're going near Glasgow you could visit Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery - it's a great way to spend a few rainy hours.

Thanks, I love the sound of red squirrel hides so will definitely check those out and I had been wondering if the kelpies were worth a visit so will add that to the list. Might go to Glasgow if the weather is Really bad and if I do I’ll check that museum and gallery out. The island sounds nice too.

And I’ll pack my swim suit for possible pool/spa excursions. Thanks.

I can’t comment on much around Loch Lomond but we just got back from a walking holiday near Fort William. The forecast before we went was terrible but actually though it rained at some point most days the weather was actually pretty good and much better than expected. We got out for good walks pretty much every day and only used the waterproof trousers once.

So it might not be as bad as you think 🙂

Falkirk wheel
Kelpies
Boat trip (steam ship) on Loch Katrine
Three lochs forest drive (by car or on bike)
Th Byre Inn at Brig O'Turk - a unique pub experience
Greengates Indian restaurant in Stirling - just devine
