Hello all. Please please please can you help me with an itinerary for 3 days in Edinburgh in Feb. This will be for my daughters 10th birthday. I also have a 6 year old! I'm looking for the best places to stay (thinking Airbnb) for ease. Is it best to hire a car or are things fairly central ? I know nothing.!

@PaniniHead if budget is tight then Jolly restaurant on elm row, the block down from the playhouse is fab. We get the 3 course lunch menu for £7.95 (dc have big appetites and get the adults one). For the main course you can get half pizza half pasta which dd loves and you barley need to eat for the rest of the day. From hotel you can get the number 11 bus straight to its door. @Coronationstation debatable issue that you'll often see discussed on local leith pages however the hotel is EH6 - it's Leith 😅

Ah that’s looks great, thank you! Love Edinburgh, back again in August. Went to the Tattoo last year and it was amazing.

You can get buses almost everywhere. There’s an app you can download so you can track bus routes and timings. No 43 will take you to south queensferry, you can catch it from central Edinburgh (lovely view of Dean Village as you go over Dean Bridge). Walk by river from historic Dean village to Stockbridge ( cafes, restaurants, shops) from there you can walk up through new town to George street and princes street etc.

Edinburgh is quite a compact place to walk round. I say that as someone with a chronic health condition which affects my mobility. Trams now run to newhaven, and most bus routes are easily done.

Camera Obscura and the Museum on chambers street are great for everyone. The Museum of Childhood has now reopened. The Royal Britannia is down at Ocean Terminal. The open top bus tours. The zoo is open all year round and easily accessible on the 31 and 26 bus routes and the 12 bus from Haymarket.

The St James Quarter for the Lego store and different types of food. The Wizard of Oz is on at the playhouse in February.

Jupiter Artland is open seasonally. The Ferris wheel is not all year round.

If you go to the national museum, take a short walk up to see the statue of greyfriars Bobby. Read up or watch the movie beforehand.
