A week in Bristol?

We will be spending a week in Bristol soon, kids are aged from age 8-18. Looking for ideas for must-do's, places to eat etc. Open to travel for day trips if worth it. Thanks for any tips.

There’s a roller disco in Bristol.
Bristol has a unicorn trail on over summer I believe so you can walk around Bristol finding them.
If any of you like swimming there is a sea pool at near by Cleavdon.
if you fancy something active Mendip activity Centre isn’t too far (Rock climbing etc).

The immersive ‘wake the Tiger’ in Bristol is also quite a fun experience.

Oh and the M shed is a nice musuem for a wonder around for an hour or so near the harbour.

Wake the Tiger is really brilliant - it's a bit difficult to work out what it actually is from the website 😅, but trust me, it's great!

SS Great Britain is a good shout. Also the M Shed and Bristol Museum if your kids are into that kind of thing. For day trips, Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge are both really good, with plenty of stuff for kids (and adults!). Glastonbury is always interesting for all the slightly weird hippy shops etc and a climb up the Tor.

For independent shops/restaurants etc Stokes Croft/ Gloucester Road is good, and has some interesting street art (including Banksy if that's of interest!). Also obviously the suspension bridge (followed by a wander around the Downs and Clifton Village).

Wake the Tiger is quite a unique experience. You’d have to google it. I can’t really explain what it is. Expensive but really good fun.

Ha cross posts on Wake the Tiger!

Oh yes, the swimming lake at Clevedon is great if it's warm! And Weston Super Mare is quite fun in a traditional British seaside kind of way (fish and chips, ice cream, arcades etc) - just don't expect to swim, the sea is usually miles out and the MUD!! Haha.

My 6 yo loved the giant grouper at the aquarium!

When we are in Bristol we always book a table at the Viet Kitchen on Stokes Croft, really good authentic Vietnamese food.

Bristol Balloon Fiesta is from 10th-13th August and takes place at Ashton Court, which is on the North Somerset side of the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Thanks, some good ideas there. Any suggestions for nice places to eat?

The burger place on a boat is fun. Can't remember the name but it's near King Street iirc.

Also look at the restaurants in shipping containers - Cargo - has a good variety of places to eat.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2023 13:51

Weston is AWFUL imo.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2023 13:52

Definitely go on a mission to find some Banksy art. And the art gallery is good too.

My kids like to go to St Nick’s market which has load of food stalls, then have a picnic in Castle Park. The burger place on the boat is called Three Brothers and we also like the Stable which is a pizza/cider place on the harbour side. Zaza Bazaar is …. An experience - round the world cuisine and all you can eat.
I’d add Bristol Zoo Project/Wild Place and Bristol water park (paddle boarding and inflatable obstacle course) plus the museum on Park Street which is free.
There are some good treasure hunts on treasuretrails.com which are a way to explore. The graffiti walking tour is very good but might be a bit long for little ones (2 hours).

Wake the Tiger is great.

For somewhere a bit different to eat, try Garden of Easton on St Marks Road.

Bath! 20 minutes away on the train and is gorgeous. A very walkable city.

There seems to be a lot of love for Wake the Tiger here, but that place made me so grumpy! I think it might be a marmite place. I couldn't quite figure out what it was trying to be.
We really enjoyed the Clifton Observatory. There's also a free museum at one end of the Clifton Suspension bridge which I found surprisingly interesting.
Cheddar Gorge was great too, even just driving to the Gorge there was so much to look at.
Food wise you're spoilt for choice really. Beirut Mezze serves delicious food and it's underground too. Ramen Monster was delicious. There's lots of 'Eat a Pitta' dotted around and the portions are huge!
