I'm looking for some places to visit within UK during summer as well as winters. Places to visit especially for weekend or long weekend.

Oxford surprised me how lovely it was, and lots to do.

York - abbey, railway museum , nice to walk around

Whistable - small coastal town, but nice walks along sea,

We like Harrogate/Thirsk. Fountains Abbey, Brimham Rocks, walking llamas at Nidderdale, Thorp Perrow, afternoon tea at Betty's are some of our faves.

Hawes is a lovely place, nearby there's Ingleton waterfall trail, White Scar Cave, Aysgarth Falls. The lodges at Bainbridge Ings are lovely and highly recommend the food at The White Hart Inn.

Beadnell Towers in Northumberland. Really good food and beautiful walks.

Eyemouth is also lovely. Walk to St Abbs head or go out on a RIB to spot seals or dolphins.

York and Liverpool are a must, very different but both great.
North wales is a good destination as it has so many varied things on offer for all budgets.
Some ideas here

City breaks are good for the winter, but the countryside is also great to explore in the cold weather then get some hot food.

Where are you starting from because of a lot of places are too far for a weekend?

Agree Oxford - free museums, punting, Botanic garden, walk across Port Meadows for Sunday lunch.

Liverpool has a Tate art gallery, two very different cathedrals and an interesting waterfront at the Albert Dock.. You can get the ferry across the Mersey, visit the Beatles Museum and take a bus trip to Lennon and McCartney's old homes

ooh watching for ideas.

We have enjoyed

Dorset near Jurassic coast - beaches, cliff top walks, fossil hunting
New Forest - bike rides, ponies, child friendly pubs
Bath, Wells and Cheddar Gorge - pretty buildings, history, walking
Whitstable - beach, cute shops, good restaurants
Herefordshire near Ludlow - good food, pretty town, unspoiled countryside
Stamford - lovely town and countryside

On my list: Folkestone, Cambridge, Bristol, York, Brighton

I was thinking the same!

I was thinking the same!

Very true @SiouxsieSiouxStiletto and @Coronationstation

We are up north so usually only tend to travel 2-3 hours max for a weekend but ideally would prefer less.

Ginola2345 · 25/07/2023 15:12

Also depends whether you prefer to totally chill out and switch off or want to be constantly busy seeing and doing.

Coronationstation · 25/07/2023 15:38

Same, which is why I’ve been to everywhere on your list @Ginola2345 (I live in one of them!) and nowhere on @minipie ’s list!!

@Newtrix please you recommend any nice places to stay on your list?

The destinations are slightly further away than we are used to but still doable for us for a weekend.

Newtrix · 25/07/2023 19:04

@Ginola2345 For Harrogate/Thirsk we like The Inn at South Stainley or The Crab and Lobster.

Hawes we stays at Bainbridge Ings as we love a lodge with a hot tub, though I think The White Hart Inn might also have rooms and there b&bs.

Eyemouth Holiday Park is a good location and accommodation is always clean.

minipie · 25/07/2023 19:04

Yep I am down south!
