Thanks to our amazing MIL, DH & I can go away for 2 nights without the DC in the October half term.

Any ideas?? I guess it needs to be somewhere which is not weather dependent.

Bath, York, London or Edinburgh. I guess it depends where abouts in the country you are and how you plan on getting there.

sashh · 21/07/2023 06:27

It depends what you want to do.

Do you want to go to the Theatre? London, Manchester, Birmingham.

Arts / museums - London

Actually London for anything and everything

History and trains - York

Sorry I don't know much about Scotland but I imagine Edinburgh would be good.

London, Manchester or Liverpool- whichever has a play or gig or restaurant you fancy.

Funf · 21/07/2023 08:29

Liverpool. It has plenty indoor and outdoor activities, try to avoid dates with big concerts of football matches as the cost will go up, or you can stay just outside the city cheaply and drive 20 mins in.

Approx where do you live? You don't want to spend it all travelling.
And what do you like to do?

Suns33ker · 22/07/2023 13:39

We are in a London borough. We’ve spent one night at York before & that clearly wasn’t long enough. I’d love to go back to Edinburgh but I think much too far for just two nights.

Live near London so already been to lots of theatre shows. Do love history though, old fashion cobbled streets

Stay in Durham and drive out to the Northumberland coast in the day time.

sashh · 23/07/2023 09:49

For history and cobbles go to York. Go by train in the morning, drop bags at left luggage and head for the railway museum.

Pick up bags and take to hotel / B and B head and get lunch somewhere, there is a market near the shambles, if the weather is good buy food from the stalls, otherwise find a cafe, spend the afternoon wandering around the centre.

Shower and change, go out for dinner and a ghost walk / hunt.

Day 2 Castle museum and Jorvic centre 1 in the morning the other in the afternoon, a walk on the walls and then an evening kitty hunt.

If you do go to York there’s a beautiful park in between the station and town centre, which often has birds of prey that you can pay a small fee to hold. It’s brilliant.

catlover33 · 23/07/2023 11:01

Cardiff! Easily accessible from London and loads to do x

Oxford and Cambridge are both easy to get to by train, compact, and walkable with good museums and galleries as well as outdoors activities.

Whoopsi · 23/07/2023 11:33

Cambridge?

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 23/07/2023 15:40

Very impressive Cherryassam I’m going to keep that.

Suns33ker · 23/07/2023 21:04

Wow you lot are amazing!! Already go to Canterbury (LOVE it) & we are going to Bath for a few days with DC in the holidays (will keep your suggestions @cherryassam. Looks like York is the front runner. Love the itinerary @sashh

If you go to York have a walk along the river. Or go for a cycle ride along the disused railway line. It has three parkruns if that's your thing. Only two hours from London so it's a good place to go if you are short of time.

Cardiff is also really good with loads to do and is also only about two hours from London on the train.
