We're planning to do a bit of a roadtrip around Wales this summer and was wondering if there are any wonderful places to visit I might not have thought of. We'll spend some time in Tenby and Gower, but will have a baby and 7 year old in tow so not sure about doing any serious hiking. Portmeirion is on my list, would love to try and visit some Welsh wineries :)
What are you must sees and dos!

Folly Farm near Tenby is great for little ones

The quilt museum in Lampeter, with a great craft shop next door.
Coastal walking. Cardiganshire has a great bus service along the coast, so you don't have to circle back on your walks, and Pembrokeshire has a ring and ride system.

We really enjoyed Bodnant Gardens, Penrhyn Castle and Portmerion.

They're all lovely places aren't they? Wink

Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire - get there by 9am though or the car park will be full!

As well as being beautiful, you can do some lovely coastal walks from the beach.

Also if you’re touring around Wales, try and visit the village of Betws Y Coed on the edge of Snowdonia. My dad was born there and it’s a beautiful place. Not far away is the famous Fairy Glen.

Fairy Glen is a hidden gem most people have never been or heard of it.
The Falls Cafe is just up the road, great food but you can go out of the back door, its a steel slippery path so take care and you will see the gorge and water falls above Fairy Glen, nice little walk and great food. We love it in the winter when the river is raging and the cafe is warm. https://www.conwyfalls.com/

The Conwy Falls is set in 10 acres of ancient SSSI woodland with spectacular loop walks providing views over the waterfalls and the Fairy Glen. Large spacious licenced café open 7 days a week.

If you're travelling North to South or vice versa, Aberystwyth has a ruined castle and curricular railway to the top of Constitution Hill. Heading north Aberdovey is great for crabbing and has a safe sandy beach. Tywyn has a small paddling pool and play area on the seafront and the honey ice cream shop with Honey Bear (person dressed up as a big bear) in school.holidays, which the kids love. Tywyn also has the Tal-y -Llyn railway to the Dolgoch waterfall. Barmouth has a small fair, and Harlech Castle is very impressive.
I'm not as familiar with North or South Wales, but Pembrokeshire in the South has done lovely beaches and is very like Cornwall, while North has the mountains including Snowdon, which you can go up by train.

Furnicular railway!

Furnicular railway!

Love the typo. Was expecting exams at the end of the curricular railway Grin

Harlech is a magical place. There's an unspoilt 5 mile long beach with sand dunes and when you're on the beach you can look at Snowdon in one direction and the incredible castle that's set back a mile or so from the beach. There's a hotel midway between beach and castle called Y Branwen which is pretty good. It's on the Llyn peninsula so you can do Portmeirion the next day.

On an impulse, we're camping outside Bridgend (!) Exploring the Glamorgan coastal path. Which is absolutely beautiful. What a surprise.
