Can anyone recommend a fun experience/ things to do with my 8 year old DD?

She has seen Frozen, is not interested in Matilda or Lion King. Been on the London Eye and Science and NHM (obviously could always go again but want to do something else). Also had a fun afternoon tea before and not that interested in London Zoo. Also been on a boat on Thames.

any other suggestions/fun things to do? Thanks

Tower of London? There’s loads to go around so it can easily fill the whole day

TrishTrix · 14/07/2023 14:37

New Young V&A museum?

some interesting food that you can&5 easily get near home.

boat to Greenwich then maritime museum.

can also go to 02 and get cable care over to docklands which is fun.

museum of docklands interesting and is a DLR ride away from there.

download one of the London scavenger self guided tours and do that?

or if you know london construct your own walking tour….

Flumpywoo · 14/07/2023 14:46

Shrek's Adventure? My daughter still enjoyed it at age 8 even though she was too young to remember watching the film.

Quite an expensive one but we are doing the Paddington Bear Afternoon Tea on a routemaster bus this summer.

The London Aquarium.

Covent Garden to watch the street performers and look round the market, then go for lunch.

Great Fire of London walking tour. Maybe mine enjoyed it so much as she was learning about it at school, but even I found it interesting

You might not want another show but how about Mrs Doubtfire?

Kidzania, although I guess you'd be watching rather than it being something to do together.

It is hard when you've done most of the typical things before!

HerculesMulligan · 14/07/2023 14:47

The Horrible Histories boat trip is great. I didn't have high hopes tbh but it's pacy and engaging.

LiloP · 14/07/2023 14:48

New Young V&A looks great @TrishTrix have you been?

my DD loves running sushi. I might try and find an all you can eat one as Yo Sushi gets VERY expensive!

@Flumpywoo she likes Paddington so will look into that. It’s a birthday trip and one relative will contribute too.

Does it have to be London? If you don’t have something specific in mind to do there are plenty of other places 😂
I had a “touristy” day in central london last weekend (I live in london) - it was horrible. Far too busy.

Flumpywoo · 14/07/2023 14:51

I forgot another good one that we've done...walking across Tower Bridge (with the glass floor). Then went do lunch and looked at the stalls along the river. It was really good.

BigFatLiar · 14/07/2023 14:51

Planetarium or Madam Tussauds.
Afternoon tea with mum somewhere nice.

We don’t live in London but it’s the closest UK city within very easy reach. All other bigger towns require change of trains and long travel and it’s supposed to be a day trip (not overnight).

@BigFatLiar I don’t think the planetarium exists anymore.

LiloP · 14/07/2023 14:54

I will check out Shrek Adventure too.

is Imax any good?

Thanks for everyone’s recommendations!!

@LiloP ok if it’s London you are set on what are her interests?

Flumpywoo · 14/07/2023 14:57

Thought of another one as we have just booked it. Mad Science show in the West End, if she'd Lille that sort of thing. They do experiments etc in stage.

TrishTrix · 14/07/2023 15:10

@LiloP nope not been out to reopened kids V&A yet. Sorry.

if you go out that way I also love the Museum of the Home but it’s best at Christmas as they put historically appropriate Christmas decs up in each of the houses. You have to pair that one with Vietnamese as there are so many restaurants in the local area.

I hear you about the sushi. I regularly talk the kids in my life out if Yo Sushi as it is SO expensive.

OH NO! I loved that place.

BigFatLiar · 14/07/2023 15:28

Just checked and there's one associated with the observatory. They do shows which look interesting (depends what interests you though). The old planetarium seems to be a Marvel Superheros type place.

Wasabi
Itsu
Japanese centre by Harrods

Are alternative sushi options.

I recommend the Old Operating Theatre Museum, and the V&A, and the Tower of London. Queue for Crown jewels looks big but moves fast

LiloP · 14/07/2023 19:27

Cat café would be my biggest nightmare 🤣😬
my friend went and said there was cat hair everywhere including on her cake.

anyway thanks everyone. Think we will book science show @Flumpywoo it looks brilliant and my DD is really into science.

Another vote for the Old Operating Theatre Museum and herb garrett- it's a bit hidden and totally fascinating!

If she's a swimmer see if the Olympic swimming pool has its inflatable session on, it's immense and lots to do around Stratford.

You could also look at swimming in the Serpentine, DD really got a kick out of swimming with the ducks and swans and it cooled us off on an incredibly hot day.

Your DD is still young enough to enjoy the Princess Diana Peter Pan Park at Kensington Gardens which is brilliant and you could pair it with a visit to Kensington Palace. Stopping off their over lunchtime, there is often a queue but we always ate our lunch in it and by the time we got to the front was ready to play.

Shreks adventure is very good, I wouldnt bother with the Sealife centre if you e been to one before we found it much of a muchness and it was like a conveyor belt of people looking through their phones and being rushed through with the crowd.

If you can get to Waterloo easily and travel out to Richmond then Kew gardens is great as is Hampton Court.
