Hi I'm going to Belfast with 15 year old and 11 year old dd next week for 4 nights. Any ideas what might be fun to do? Already booked the Titanic museum and we plan to go to W5. Any other ideas, or good places to eat?

We are staying in an apt on Queens Rd near the Titanic museum.

Thank you

Do a black taxi tour of the peace wall murals.

ItsMyUkelele · 14/07/2023 07:54

Crumlin Road gaol tour is really interesting. I second the mural can tour.
The titanic museum is amazing, you'll love it!

Itsanewme · 14/07/2023 07:55

Thanks for your replies .
Both added to the list .

Ulster Museum and Botanic Gardens and then Orto or Maggie Mays for food.
Victoria Square for shopping. Also has cinema.
St George's Market.
City Hall.

Would you have time to take a day trip to the north coast to do the giants causeway.

Do the Dome at Victoria Square. Views across the city are fab.

Ulster Museum and Botanic Gardens = free!

Tour of City Hall.

Ulster Folk & Transport Museum near Holywood in Cultra.

Ulster Folk & American Park.

Drive up the Causeway Coast to Dunluce Castle, Giants Causeway, Ballycastle and Portrush.

Carrickfergus Castle - unique in the British Isles.

Visit to Tollymore Forest and Newcastle.

Marble Arch Caves near Enniskillen, County Fermanagh.

Giant's Ring near Lisburn.

Navan Fort in Armagh.

Downpatrick for St Patrick's Centre, nearby purported burial site and St Patrick's Way walks.

Helen's Bay.

Visit Tayto factory in Tandragee, Armagh.

If you are a group of ten, book a visit to Coca-Cola factory.

As you can see, I'm NOT recommending anything to do with the Troubles as we're about much more than this still contentious history.

After all, our history does predate the Troubles by a long way!

Ulster Museum and the Dome also added to the trip.
Thanks

Dark Hedges - but park in the designated car parks down the road. I've seen many people ignore the large signs NOT to park on the actual road because they park on verges which damages the tree roots. Not good for them at all.

Boat trip to Rathlin Sound and possible visit to Rathlin Island itself. Best known for Robert The Bruce and his spider web inspiration.

tandt5 · 14/07/2023 08:33

We loved Prison Island escape room (similar age kids), Ulster Museum, St George's Market, Belfast Castle, guided tour of Crumlin gaol, Belfast Giants hockey game.
If away from Belfast, Newcastle, Mourne Mountains, Castlewellan Forest Park and Murlough Nature Reserve are fantastic.
or towards Giants Causeway,Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge, Kinbane Castle and Ballintoy Harbour.

DownNative · 14/07/2023 08:36

Lough Neagh cruise - largest body of freshwater in the UK by area.

Strangford Lough - area of outstanding natural beauty.

Thinking 4 nights is not enough now
there's so much to do

SS Nomadic is also very good - it's near the Titanic museum. It was one of the boats they used to take people out to board the Titanic.

There's also The Dock café near where you're staying, which could come in handy - it's an honesty box cafe, so you just pay what you want. It doesn't have a huge range of food, but great for tea/coffee/juice and a bun.

We're a small country with a LOT packed into it and within easy driving distance!

Most things are to be found across Antrim and Down which isn't surprising as the population of the two is much bigger than the population of the other four counties. Out of a population of 1.9million, close to 1.2million people live in Antrim and Down.

Enjoy your visit to Northern Ireland!

DownNative · 14/07/2023 12:34

Thompson Dry Dock and Pumphouse is another one which isn't far from the Titanic Centre. 👍

SouthCountryGirl · 14/07/2023 12:36

If you're into football , a tour of Windsor park

As you’ve got lots of recommendations on things to do, I’ll drop a food recommendation:

Yugo is really great, some of the best food I’ve had recently. Pan-Asian small plates, we thought good value for the quality, really tasty, good vibe, great with allergies / dietrary requirements.

Deffo book ahead.

Warm, contemporary eatery serving Asian fusion seafood & vegan plates alongside classic cocktails.

You can visit Stormont Estate and also tour Parliament Buildings aka Stormont.

Oblomov23 · 14/07/2023 21:27
