Self catering food - ideas?

Hi

Just me and my 13 year old going for a week self catering in the lakes. We'll eat out once and get a takeaway once but any thoughts to make it nice but different the rest of the time.

I'm so in need of a break I don't really want to cook all the time and if possible I'd like it to be different from being at home.

Any thoughts for quick easy food that's a bit more special or interesting?

Thanks

Hot dogs, Pasta cooked in a flask, Take Chilli or Curry with you to reheat. Let them cook.

Booths.

You are going to the lakes. Amazing, find the nearest booths. Get a shop there of lovely things. Picky teas, ready meals, etc etc.

Nothing wrong with a few days of ready meals or pre prepared foods . I always head for the nearest Asda if there is one as they are good for prepared fresh food . Stuff like roasted vegetable trays and crispy potatoes

I second this. Booths is the most amazing supermarket! There’s a very easy to find one in Windermere.

We do self catering in the lakes every year... I take frozen chilli and spag bol which also work as cool packs, pre made pizzas with salad in bag and then a pack of veggie sausages with a tin of beans and a couple of pots to make mash. Then eat out/take away a couple of nights. If you're in near Bowness I highly recommend Porto for a meal.

There was a similar thread recently, but the OP wanted to take along meals.
I would firstly check whether there is a tiny, undercounter fridge/freezer in the room, any fridge/freezer at all and what supermarkets are local to the place. Also check if there is an oven, microwave or just a cook top. I've been to various 'self catering' hotels, and some have had a single cook top and a microwave!

I'd buy locally what I'd call easy meals which might require a minimum of cooking.

Supermarket dine in for 2 meals are great value

pizza, pasta zero effort

batch cook before you go - take frozen chilli/bolognese/whatever with you and eat in the first couple of days
