Haven- fire pits

Does anyone know if you can use a fire pit when camping at Haven?

When we last went camping (private camping site) they banned fire pits, something we’ve never experienced before, it dropped in temp quite a lot so we was all in bed by 9pm to keep warm. We go to Haven in august and suddenly had a panic/wonder if this is a thing at Havens too as we’re really going to struggle again 😞

We know you can have charcoal bbq’s as we’ve used them when staying in their statics just not sure re. Fire pits.

Thanks for reading!

Quick google gives you the answer :

Can I bring a fire pit? As guests aren't allowed to light ground fires on park, fire pits are not permitted at any of our holiday parks.

No they're not.

Nothing to stop you lighting a bbq though that would chuck out some heat. (Has to be a bbq on legs, not on the ground).

No fire pits are not allowed.

From their FAQs.

Tbh I'm glad they don't, Haven attracts the occasional camper that is more interested in partying/activities which is completely fine but I'd rather they weren't in charge of flames near tents.

Ah bollocks! Thank you very much for the replies though!

@Ducksurprise 😅 I know the type you mean but I’m t-total and we have a 7, 3 and 1 year old so definitely not up till the crack of dawn partying (anymore 😉), just wanted to warm a marshmallow on a stick and have a hot choc with a blanket and a cosy fire with the kids and hubby 😔

nevermind eh!

Can’t you just make a small fire up in your charcoal bbq on legs? Have the bbq then stick a few logs on the top? If it’s not on the ground it might be ok. Try calling them or asking? You could surely add a few bits of kindling for marshmallows - that’d be no more fire than getting the bbq coals lit.

AhDad · 11/07/2023 16:52

@Talipesmum thats exactly what I was thinking.. stick some kindling on the coals for a bit of warmth and toast the marshies.

You reckon we’d get away with that? I’d hate for us to get kicked off because we’ve saved so hard for this break 😞

If you want a good campsite which allows open fires and even sells you the sustainable wood to do it, then go to Llyn Gwynant in North Wales. It's the most beautiful camp site I've ever been to and we try to get there every year.

AccidentallySuckedTheStrippersDick · 11/07/2023 16:56

And I will tell you right now, if you get caught with an open fire on a disposable charcoal bbq at Haven they will likely ask you to leave. I was an accomodation manager for them a few years ago and they are very very strict about reducing the risk of fire. That's why they don't allow wooden decking around the static caravans any more.

cocksstrideintheevening · 11/07/2023 16:58

You wouldn't need kindling, have a bbq for dinner (proper one on legs) add some more coal if needed. Our BQQ stays hot for hours and perfectly able to do marshmallows on

AhDad · 11/07/2023 16:58

@AccidentallySuckedTheStrippersDick bleedin love your user name! Also.. we’ve been there at the suggestion of a MN (I imagine yourself but under a different UN maybe) It was amazing! But we’re off to Filey this time as we’ve been N.Wales every year (multiple times in the year too 😅) and this site was recommended for our DC ages. We always use sustainable wood and keep a good sober eye on the fire too luckily 😅

@AccidentallySuckedTheStrippersDick we don’t use disposable bbqs luckily, we take our proper one with us. It’s about a metre off the ground 😮‍💨

I'd just take it, do some hot dogs on it then get the marshmallows out . If it's a proper bbq nobody's going to be bothered.

I’ve asked that question at quite a few campsites over the years and apart from last year when it had been tinder dry for weeks and weeks, all of them were fine with a small fire in the bbq up off the ground. Never been to a haven though. Maybe call them up and ask?
